Toby's POV:
Before any of us can stop him, that monster has his fist in her stomach. She's crying up to this point and her face looks more scared than in pain, but I know she has to be. When he hits her in the face so hard it could go through a wall, I lose it.
I grab him and yank him off of her. Andrew is at my side within seconds and when he grabs his arms causing him to fight back, the Zack guy loses his balance and falls down the stairs, landing on his side. Too bad it was only four steps...
From where Connor is at the bottom, he grabs the guys shoulders and yanks him up. He's a little shook up from his fall but he still gives up a good fight. He thrashes his arms trying to get out of our grip and that's when his elbow drives straight into my cheekbone. I can barely feel the pain, but I do know by the immediate feeling of swelling that I'll feel it later. Right now its the least of my worries.
We force him to the door, the whole time thrashing and kicking and yelling that were gonna pay for this. Andrew opens the screen door and Connor and I push him out and shut the door behind him.
"Your gonna get it! You here me!" He screams pounding on the door. Then he kicks the door and by the sound of it, I wouldn't be surprised if it shattered. Just like my heart.
I don't wait a second more after he turns and heads towards his car to find Sam. I go to the basement door and finding it locked, I shake the handle and bang on the door. "Sam! Sam! Let me in!"
Andrew comes to my side and yells down, "Rhian he's gone! Let us in!"
Through my pounding, I hear footsteps running up the stairs and then they turn the corner, where Rhian appears. I notice her face is read and teary when she looks up to unlock the door.
Andrew pulls the door open and I push past him and run down the stairs. I don't know where I'm going and I would've gotten lost if it weren't for Sam's heart stabbing cries. I run to the door and yank it open.
Sam's sitting curled up on a bed and Riley stands in front of her with his arms around her. He turns and looks behind him when I open the door. His face is stressed but he looks concerned when he lays eyes on my face.
I don't answer his questions. I don't look at him. I don't take in my surroundings. I just run up to the bed and push past Riley, wrapping my arms tightly around Sam. I only let the tears drop when I feel her grasp onto me for life.
The people moving in the background is just that, background noise. I hear no words, just mumbling. Then the mumbling stops and I hear the door close quietly.
I lean my head down further and rest my head on her shoulder. I still feel her shaking and the tears are falling down her face silently now. I sway her gently back and forth like I've done before until she relaxes.
I rub her back until I don't feel her body trembling anymore. "Hold on," I whisper into her ear. I stand up straight and in wrap my arms from around her. Before turning around, I look into her scared eyes.
Behind me, I walk toward the light switch to turn off the lights. Before I do, I notice on the desk a small hand remote with two switches, on and off. That's when I notice the lights hanging above. I pick it up and look at sam, sitting there with her knees pulled up to her chest and her eyes staring into space. I turn it on and the lights above me flicker and light up the room.
I set it down and turn off the main light, which leaves the glow of the string lights alone in the room. I crawl into bed next to Sam and pull her close, keeping my arms around her.
