Sam's POV:

"I'll be back soon," he whispers. He places a soft kiss on my head then leaves. Its hard not to call him back. Not to call them all back inside. I don't know what they're doing and maybe it's best if it stays that way. I'm sick of having to worry about the people I love.

Before I know it, I've run out of things to talk about with Rhian and Grace. Now all I have left to do is sit and stare at the darkening sky wondering where they are. And that's another thing that worries me. It shouldn't be so dark so soon. There must be a storm coming so I worry even more.

At one point I finally crack. "God, where are they!" I say, my eyes watering. I'm scared and angry. Angry because they aren't back and I don't know where they are and scared because its getting too dark out for my liking. And what if something happened to them. We don't know where they are...

"Sam, they'll come back when their done. They are fine. I promise." Grace comes up behind me as I stare out the window, waiting.

"Its so dark out..." I whisper.

"I know. There must be a storm coming. Looks like rain. Which is weird for winter isn't it?" I nod my head in response.

I wait by the door watching the leaves roll by as the wind gradually picks up speed, ripping through the snow drifts.

"God, Sam your shaking." Grace says placing her hands on my arms.

"I can't help it. They should be back by now. Andrew would've come back with the weather like this and he-"

"Sam. Listen to me. I don't know what you want to hear right now but if its that they aren't dead, guess what, they aren't dead."

"I know..." I say. Then it hits me and a tear slips down my cheek. "If I can't handle him being gone for an hour, what am I going to do when he's gone for good?"

"This is different Sam. We have bad weather. The nations in a crisis at the moment. There are mad men on the loose. When he's gone, which by the way will not be for good, you'll still be able to talk to him and have fun even if he's not here. But I know it will be hard. I know." Grace says.

I return to staring out the window. A few moments later, Rhian comes in from the garage suddenly. "You hear that?" We stop but we can't hear anything. Grace and I give her a weird look. Usually she would return it but instead she runs by me and pushes through the backdoor into the yard.

I follow her outside in my bare feet, not nothing to feel the cold when I hear what she heard.

Far off in the distance you can hear a siren. As it goes on it gets louder and louder, even above the sound of the rain that begins to fall. But it doesn't stop, which can only mean one thing: that's a tornado siren...

"Grace!" I start to hyperventilate. She grabs my hand and pulls me with her after Rhian. I run beside her, barefoot in the snow and watching where I put my feet, back to the fence in our yard.

Yeah we have a basement and yeah, its safe, but when my parents built the house they decided to build a tornado shelter outside in case we ever needed one. I guess its safer in case the house collapses.

When I look up from where I'm stepping, were still a little away from the shelter. But when I look up I see them running from the other direction towards us. My heart calms down a bit but not that much considering I'm running in a foot of snow barefoot in the rain.

The guys get there before us and by the time we reach them, Andrew has the shelter unlocked and is climbing inside after Connor.

I let go of Graces hand and go to Toby, who is running toward me. He's dripping wet but I wrap my arms around him anyway.

"Hey lovebirds let's go!" Riley shouts over the rain. He stands in the door of the shelter, then reaches up and helps Grace inside.

I let Toby go in first. Then I, with my frozen feet, walk to the edge of the entrance and bend down, ready to jump. Then I feel a pair of hands on my waist that lowers me softly down to the ground. I look up just in time to see his eyes before the door is closed and the light is gone.

I hold on to him tightly. I don't know where I am really. I've only been down here once and that was when I was eight.

"Hold on, let me find the lights..." Andrew mutters. Then a few seconds later, a light flickers on to my right. "Okayy..."

"Okay since when does it rain in winter?" Rhian says. "And why is there a tornado?"

"I don't know this is ridiculous."

I tune out of their conversation and rest my head on Toby's shoulder. He moves his hands from my waist so instead his arms are fully around me. Then he rests his head against mine. "You okay?" He whispers into my ear.

"Where were you? I thought something happened and you couldn't get back in time. I heard the siren and-" my voice cracks and I give up. I let the tears fall silently down my cheeks.

"I'm sorry Sammy. I didn't know that would happen." He rubs my back. "Your fine now. We'll be fine."

"Toby flashlight!" Connor says interrupting us. We turn just in time to see Connor toss us a flashlight, something we weren't ready for. It ends up hitting me and then crashing to the floor.

"Oww." I say softly, too tired, scared, and cold to do much.

"Connor, what the heck?" Toby says rubbing my hip where it hit me. Then he picks the flashlight up off of the ground.

"Oh god sorry Sam. You okay?" He comes over to me and hugs me. "Oh jeez! Your freezing!"

"I know..."

"I'll get you a blanket." He walks over to Andrew and grabs a blanket from him. "Toby blanket!" This time he catches it.

"Come here." Toby unwraps the blanket and wraps it around my shoulders. Then he leads me over to the wall, where we slide our backs down and lean against it.

"This thing is huge," I say motioning with the blanket. I open it up and say, "come here. Your freezing too."

He smiles and wraps an end around him. Then I lean against his chest and he pulls me closer. I instantly feel warmer with him. I fall asleep slowly listening to the rain pound on the ground above.
