Riley's POV:
"Shoot! Oh my god!" We all turn quickly to Grace, who's standing there with both hands on her head. "Lucy!"
No one says anything. We all just look at each other with worried faces and wondering what the heck were supposed to do now.
"Let me out! I gotta go get her!" She says to Andrew.
"Your not going alone and I have to stay here and make sure this thing doesn't break." He says holding up a board. Without that board, this shelter would be on its way to a flood area.
I look at Connor, who's all wrapped up in a blanket, and Toby who is almost asleep curled up next to Sam."I'll go." I grab my wet coat but before I slip it on again, I realize Grace came out here with nothing but a small jacket. I remove the hoodie out of my coat and hand it to her. "Here put this on."
"Thank you." She whispers. But I know her minds on something else: Lucy. I slip my coat on and push on the door to the shelter. The wind, snow and rain above is putting pressure on it so it feels like five hundred pounds. I eventually slide it open against the wind and the rain starts to blow in.
I climb out and realize that its even darker than before. I turn and bend down, grabbing Graces cold hand and pulling her up. Before shutting the door, I yell back into the shelter, "we'll be back!" But I doubt anyone heard me over the noise outside.
"Come on," I say grabbing her hand and begin to push through the falling rain and wind. The snow blows into our faces, making them burn and freeze within seconds. It burns so much it hurts.
I keep my head down trying to avoid it and run as fast as I can through the snow, pulling Grace with me. When we reach the back door, the wind is pushing it the other way, making it hard to pull open. It budges and I push through the doorway and into the dry house.
Grace pulls the door shut and the loud noise of the wind whipping through the air turns into a whisper in the background. I take my hood off and I can feel like I can breath again.
"You okay?" I ask her. She stands there frozen and shivering and her face looks like it burns more than mine. Her eyes start to water and she brings a finger up to wipe the tear away.
"I'm fine. I just can't believe I forgot her. I'm supposed to be in charge of her."
"No we all are. Were all here and we all forgot because of all-" I stop when I hear a cry from upstairs. I run ahead of Grace up the stairs and across the hallway. When we pass by the windows, snow, wind and debree claw at them forcefully.
I open the door to the right of me and I immediately see Lucy on the bed to the left of the window. "Lucy!" Grace rushes past me to the bed. But right before she's out of reach, I see a branch from the tree outside the window swing once. Then twice. Then three times, right into the window. Smashing it to pieces that fly across the room in the wind.
I grab her arm and pull her back, turning us so our backs are to the window. "Lucy stay there, okay?" I yell. She doesn't stop crying through the fear.
Once the wind dies down and the glass doesn't shatter anymore, I unwrap my arm from around grace and turn around. There's a small cut on the side of her face that start to trickle blood. There's glass all over the floor of the room and the rain from outside is dripping in.
"Grace..." Lucy whines from the bed. She starts to get up and before she swings her legs over the side we stop her.
"No wait Lucy don't move! Well come get you. Don't move." Grace tells her placing a hand on her cut.
"Stay here. I'll get her." Before she can protest I place a foot by the edge of the broken glass and place another on top of it. It softly crunches and I can just barely feel it through my shoe, but it still hurts. I make my way over to the bed but I can't make it all of the way. There's at least two feet more between me and Lucy, all of it covered in glass that I would never in my life step on.
"Okay can you stand up for me Luc?" I ask her calmly. She stands up a little wobbly on the bed and catches her balance. "Okay. Good. Now wrap your arms around my neck." I see her hesitate. To my right the broken window starts to spit shards into the room again. We gotta get out of here. "Come on your fine. I promise."
She leans forward and places her hands on my shoulders. Then I grab her and pick her up, pulling her close. With her added weight, my feet are digging even harder into the broken class.
She wraps her arms tightly around my neck and she doesn't let go, even as I step back next to Grace. I follow her down the stairs and back outside, where the winds still whip as hard as before.
I run right behind Grace holding Lucy tightly against me. When we finally reach the door through the snow, Lucy knocks hard on the metal. A couple of seconds later, the door flies open with Connor on the other side. I hand down Lucy to him and he turns and brings her inside.
I turn to Grace to help her down first but just as I do, her face turns surprised and I feel two hands from behind me grab me on the arms. To my side the door to the shelter slams shut and the same guy goes and grabs Grace. A third guy pushes against the door so no one is able to open it.
"Hey! What are you doing!" She yells trying to get out of his grasp.
"Let go of her!" I yell tearing my arm away from the guy. Usually I'm able to fight back but this time my enemy is stronger than I am. From out of no where another guy pushes my down and my arms are tied behind my back. The chains tear into my flesh and it burns even worse than my face.
"Stop! Don't!" I hear and then Grace is slammed down to the ground next to me. I try to thrash my legs out but someone stands on them and it hurts to move, so I'm forced to stop.
"Get em up." Someone says and for some reason I recognize his voice. Before I can think about it, something is forced over my head and I can't see anymore. All I know is that by the time I'm dragged away, I'm knocked out and unconscious.
