I stared at the blank Word document for about twenty minutes. It was Sunday night, the night before my death. My hands were shaking above the keyboard. I couldn’t bring myself to write anything. I didn’t want to. I didn’t think I’d have to, but of course Natalia figured out a plan to thwart my attempts at saving myself. Well, she was finally getting what she wanted. Amy and I tried everything, and of course Natalia found a way to take us down. Maybe she was a little smarter than we thought.
I exited the document. I forgot that it was supposed to be hand-written. I walked over to my backpack and pulled out a notebook. I flipped a few pages and ripped out a plain sheet of paper. Did she want it in pen or pencil? I walked over and unraveled the note of evil. It said that I had to write in pencil, neatly. Gosh, she really thought this one out.
I walked back to my desk and set the pencil and paper on top. I could feel a tear slide down my cheek. This was one assignment that I did not want to get an A on. If I didn’t do it then my friends would suffer. Ugh, why am I such a good guy? Why can’t I just be heartless and only care about myself?
I shook that thought from my mind. That was rude. Of course I thought about my friends. Without them, I’m nothing. Speaking of friends, I pulled out my phone and texted Amy. Oh, right. You are probably wondering why I have a phone now, since mine was destroyed. Well, turns out that having rich friends is a good thing. Paige got me a new phone yesterday. It was really nice of her, but I still wished I would have gotten to the office before that happened. I just couldn't believe Brenda.
I placed it on the desk and stared at it. Nothing. I’ve never had to wait this long for her to reply. I leaned my head against the desk and kept my gaze on the phone. Still no response. I picked it up and stared at the picture I set as my wallpaper. It was of Alec and me at the park. I totally forgot about the picture and reset it as my wallpaper. Yeah, my pictures were saved because I had the iCloud thing. I just wished that it would have saved that voice recording. This picture was taken a while ago. The second week of school during lunch. Alec and I snuck off…
“Where are you taking me?” I laughed as Alec pulled me along.
“It’s a surprise,” he responded with a giggle. I smiled and waited for us to arrive at our destination. I looked around to see that we were near the back of the school. Never been here before. He kept pulling me along until we eventually exited the school. I looked around to see if anyone saw us. The coast was clear.
“Seriously, where are we going?”
“I told you, it’s a surprise.”
“We aren’t even in school anymore. Won’t we get into trouble?”
“Do you really believe that I would do that?” he asked with a sincere look on his face.
“I don’t know. I mean, I barely even know you.”
“Yet, the day we met you invited me to hang out with you. We went to a club and danced together and screeched an Adele song,” he elucidated. “Plus, the next day we almost kissed.”
“I don’t see your point,” I said with a serious face. He started to laugh, and I joined in.
“Speaking of that day, we’re here,” he said turning me to see the park where THAT almost happened. I looked around to see that we were alone. No one was walking their dogs, or playing with their kids or just going for a walk. It was just us.
“How are we going to get back to school?”
“We can hear the bell from here. Well, at least I hope we can. Then again, who needs to go to class when I have you,” he smiled. I blushed. He suddenly lunged forward and pushed me to the ground. I screamed and he started tickling me.
