The next week was dedicated to our friends. Alec and I decided that we would spend more time with our friends and less time with each other. We will still spend some time though, after the week trial with our friends. For some odd reason I felt as though I would have a much harder time than him. Amy gave me a ride to school every single one of those days that I ignored her to be with Alec. We didn’t really seem to be on speaking terms. I’m sure that Ginny would be a little more talkative to Alec, considering that she didn’t really have anyone else to fall back on. Yeah, that was a bit mean, but whatever.

I leaned against Boston, waiting for Amy. I was ready to spend the entire day with her. I would give her a big smile as she walked up and a big hug. Yeah, that sounds good. Then I would talk to her about something other than Alec or boys or relationships. This next week was going to be our best. I could just feel it.

I took out my phone and checked the time. It was almost 7:10. If she didn’t appear soon then we would be late for school. Come on, Amy. Yeah, we haven’t been that big on communicating for the last month or so. She didn’t text to be ready in five or ten minutes before we departed for school. Every morning I just made sure to get ready quickly and exit my house at the same time. She would always be late so I just waited by her car. She was never this late though. I was about to go up to her door when she finally exited the building.

I stood up straight and gave her a big smile. She didn’t even give me eye contact. She put her bag in the back and then took her seat. I opened my door and slid in next to her. I kept my smile and she paid attention to the front. She started the car up and I kept staring at her with my now creepy smile. The car started moving and let go of my smile. I decided that it was time to engage in conversation.

“Good morning,” I spoke up. She ignored. “How have ya been?”

She still didn’t speak. The answer to that question was pretty obvious though. I slunk back in my seat and looked out of my window. I was trying to make this work, she could at least hold up her end of the bargain.

“Am-“

“What are you trying to do?” she uttered.

“What do you mean?” I questioned. Well, at least she said something.

“You are trying to act like we are okay.”

“I’m not ‘trying’ anything. I just want to talk to my friend.”

“What friend? I don’t see any of your friends in this car. I only see someone that was pushed away by the only person in the world she thought would never do that to her.”

I paused for a moment. A tear could be seen sliding down the side of her face. I had to think for a minute. Yeah, she was totally right. I did something completely unforgivable, but she of all people should be willing to see otherwise. Plus, it was sort of an accident. I also was ready to play the ‘first relationship’ card. I didn’t know what I was doing. Well, I did, but still.

“Okay, I understand where you are coming from,” I started. “I’m sorry. For the past month I have been in la la land. I couldn’t help it, it was my first relationship. I didn’t know what I was doing. I pushed away all of my friends, and my best friend who I swore would always be my number one.”

“Really? You are using the ‘first relationship’ card?” she groaned.

“Yes,” I answered. She went back to focusing on the street. We had just arrived at school. “Hey, at least I realized my mistake. Most people wouldn’t even notice until their friends tell them that they felt pushed away. You guys didn’t come up to me at all or say anything.”
