"Never!" Amy yelled holding onto her bed post. I was grabbing her by the legs trying to pull her out of her room.
"Please! I will never ask you for anything ever again," I persuaded.
"BULLSHIT!" she screamed. She started to kick. I eventually let go. She ran over to the other side of her bed. I started walking over to her slowly.
"Why won't you go to church?" I asked nicely.
"Because it's church! We wouldn't be caught dead there!"
"Well, we are alive."
"Shut up. I'm not going."
"I already told Shelly that we are going."
"Why do I have to? You can just go by yourself."
"I thought you were my friend. A friend would do this for me."
"How dare you pull the friend card," she hissed. I stared at her intently. It looked like she was thinking.
"So...?" I broke the silence.
"Fine. But I am not going to get baptized or exorcised today. I plan to keep the demons inside of me," she decided. I grabbed her and took her to her closet. I searched for something dressy, but appropriate. I found a long yellow dress with thick straps, so that she wouldn't be sent to the Nurse's office to get a change of clothes because the straps are too thin. Or whatever they do at church.
After she put the dress on and fixed her hair, we went over to my place. We dug deep into the closet and found a black suit. I never thought I would actually get to wear this. I put the suit on and just kept my hair the way it was. There was really nothing that I could have done with it. I put some dress shoes on and we exited the building.
She reluctantly entered Boston and waited for me to get in. I opened the door and sat down awkwardly. I have never actually worn a suit. It was kind of hard to move around in. I managed. Amy was staring at me, or maybe glaring. I couldn't tell.
"You sure you want to do this?" she asked not trying to hide her displeasure.
"I am positive," I answered.
"Why?"
"What?"
"Why are we doing this? You never actually specified."
"I just felt like I needed some Jesus in my life," I replied with no hesitation.
"Wow, that's interesting. You come to this realization after Alec cancels on you."
"Well it helped me recognize the fact that I have been living an impure life."
"You are talking crazy. What is the real reason? Does it have to do with Alec?" she interrogated.
"No. Maybe. Yes? I don't know. After he called me to postpone, I just got so angry. I needed a friend," I admitted.
"I'm your friend. I live right next to you. You could have come over and talked to me," she explained. "Skyler is your friend as well, and she kind of never left my house. Seriously, it was like midnight. I had to get one of those roofies that your dad lent me that one time I went to your house to do that one project last year in science. Remember, he gave it to me because he was still under the false impression that we were doing it? And from his experience, it's better when the other person is unconscious. Anyways, I did that and then dragged her to my car and drove her home."
I stared at her for a second. She looked away in shame. I actually wanted to laugh. Okay, maybe I did. She joined in. We eventually stopped and she started up the car and we went to church. We got there in no time. It was only about 20 minutes away. Okay, that seems like a long time, but it flew by. We found the parking lot and found an open spot further away from the front of the church. Different from our usual parking morals. She turned the car off and stared at me again with the same look.
