“This is so stupid! Why am I even here?  I didn’t do anything!” grumpy Stella roared as she scrubbed paint off of the floor.

“None of us should be here. Cole started it,” Steve growled.

“And you continued it,” I added.

“Both of you need to shut up,” Skyler cut in spraying us with what better be water. I looked over at Amy who was silently cleaning the palettes in the sink.

“What? You’re not going to say something? You’re not going to defend Steve or say something completely rude to me all because you got too attached,” I said to her. She stayed silent.

“Cole, what did I say? Shut up,” Skyler whispered.

Detention had only just begun. There was still another fifty something minutes. I already hated it. Stella did too. That was for other reasons though. It was still a big surprise to me that Amy hadn’t said anything mean and Steve-like to me. She just continued to clean in the sink. Skyler and I took to the floors. Steve was cleaning the tables along with Stella who was mostly complaining. The stupidest thing to me was that the teacher wasn’t even present. She probably went off to go hook up with another teacher that was keeping some poor students captive in another class.

I stopped cleaning for a moment and looked around. Skyler was working on a really tough spot a few feet away. She was determined to destroy that glob of paint. I fixed my gaze onto Amy she was still in the sink slowly cleaning the palettes. I tried to focus in on her face. Her expression was a little on the sad side. Of course, I can relate because it’s detention. No one should be happy in detention. It wasn’t that though, I could tell that something else was bothering her. I tried to shake the feeling off. It wasn’t my problem. I turned over to see Stella angrily cleaning paint. She was muttering a few words. I assumed they were bad ones. I couldn’t help but giggle a little. Lastly I checked on Steve whose eyes were set right on me. We made eye contact for a second. For once he didn’t have an evil smirk. It was very heartwarming.

I got bored after a while and decided to go back to destroying the paint monsters that inhabited the floor. It would be much easier if the teacher gave us real cleaning supplies. Maybe some actual paint remover? The Windex she gave me was not working. I looked for something sharp or with a blade. I saw some scissors on her desk. It was time to resort to scraping. Once I acquired the scissors, I gave no mercy to the paint. What do you know, it worked. I turned slightly around to see Steve, Stella and Skyler staring at me. Their eyes were wide open.

“H-Hey, guys,” I uttered.

“You want to give me those?” Steve asked.

“Nope. They’re mine. I found them first!” I growled.

“Where did you get those scissors?” Skyler asked with crazy eyes.

“Over there,” I replied pointing to the desk and scooting back.

“I have been using these ghetto ass cleaning supplies on this damn paint when I could have just grabbed some scissors and scraped this motha?” Stella shouted. I nodded. They all looked at each other and then to the desk. After a few seconds, they ran towards the desk. It was actually pretty fun to watch. I never thought I would see the day where people fought over scissors. I guess I can cross that off of my bucket list.

A little over twenty minutes went by and the teacher came back. She assessed our work so far and decided that we got a five minute break. Woot, five whole minutes! Skyler sat at a table with me further away from the others. Stella was asleep on one of the tables. Amy was alone at a table on the other side of the classroom. I didn’t see Steve which was strange. I looked around the room and he was nowhere to be found. I looked back over to Amy’s side. She looked over me and then down at her phone. She was texting. Her face was still in its depressed state. I really wondered what was up.
