"Mmm. Caspar I think we should talk to them. When Zoe and I leave, I'll talk to her in the car and you talk to Joe here. Sound good?" I suggested to Caspar.
"Yeah, I think I can do that." He answered quietly, not wanting the others to hear.
I couldn't help but worry. If they were both so caught up, it must've been something pretty bad.
"I don't want to leave you here, but I think its best we go. I'll take Zoe out for lunch or something. Maybe it won't be so hard to get it out of her." I said with a sigh.
I heard a very over exaggerated sigh from the boy next to me.
"Caspar you're so dramatic...." I laughed.
"I don't want you to leave!" He whined.
"I'll visit again tomorrow and maybe later on today, alright?" I said.
"Okay, but I'll be thinking of you every second." He said, frowning.
I kissed him and started to move myself off the bed.
I felt him grab my hand as I almost completely got out of the bed.
"Please don't go." Caspar begged.
"Please let go." I joked. "Caspar I don't want to leave either but if I go now, I might be able to manage getting the information out of Zoe and have time to come back and see you."
He sighed.
"Bye Caspar." I kissed him again and hopped off the bed, then started to walk away.
"Bye Charlie." he said as he reached his hand out to me.
I didn't want to leave him at all but I have to. I'll be back later to see him again so its not all bad.
I made my way over to Joe and Zoe who seemed pretty deep in conversation. As soon as I got near enough that I could actually make out words, Joe looked up and immediately shut up. Zoe looked up at me with a blank expression and stayed silent.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to intrude on anything." I apologized. "Zoe I was thinking we could go out and get some food and then visit again a bit later?" I continued with a small smile.
Zoe nodded. She held Joe's hand and I noticed she gave it a small squeeze and then let go and turned to the door and started to walk out. I turned my head to Caspar, who was already staring at me and he drew a tear falling down his face with one finger and then blew a kiss and waved.
I quickly walked over to him. I couldn't just leave. I walked to the side if his bed and leaned in for a kiss. I felt his lips on mine as the kiss deepened. I could feel all his emotion through this kiss and I'd never had this kind of feeling with him before. I can feel the light burning in my heart only getting stronger and stronger.
I broke the kiss and realised we were holding hands. He was rubbing small circles over the back of my hand with his thumb, sending shivers down my spine, but the good ones.
"I love you." He whispered.
"I love you." I said back.
I turned around and unfortunately had to let go of his hand. It was still tingling where he was rubbing circles. I could exactly predict where he'd drawn the tiny circles from the sensation in my hand.
I walked out of the hospital room, giving Joe a tight smile as I left. His eyes followed me, but his face showed no emotion.
I had never seen Zoe or Joe like this before.
I caught up to Zoe who was already half way to the main entrance door of the hospital.
I walked alongside her and took her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
We walked to the car and she opened the door and got in the passenger side.
I sat in the drivers seat and put the key in ignition. I didn't turn it yet. We just sat there in silence.
Until Zoe spoke up.
"Why?" She asked.
"Why what?" I asked, replying to what she had said.
"Why does my baby brother, who has always been the best he can be and always put others first, have the worst things happen?" She started to raise her voice in anger.
"What has happened? Why is this a problem?" I asked quietening my voice in hope it would calm her down a little bit as well.
The car stayed silent.
I sighed.
"Zoe you need to talk to me. What's going on?" I demanded, but in a soft tone.
She took a deep breath.
"Do you remember when Joe was 4 and he broke his leg?" Zoe asked.
"Yeah, when it was Christmas time and he had the massive cast on his leg?" I replied.
"Yes. That's the one. Mum and Dad never wanted to tell anyone this unless people took advantage of it. But the break when Joe was little was so bad that his leg is very delicate and if he broke it again there was an 85% chance of his whole leg having to be amputated. He won't be able to walk properly. We can't afford a prosthetic leg. If this break was serious enough, he won't be able to walk properly." Zoe sighed heavily.
Woah. I was not expecting that...
"Wow Zoe I'm so sorry. I can't believe I never knew! You know we would all do everything we could to help him if it took a turn for the worst! Everyone would chip in to get him a prosthetic leg!" I said with positivity.
"Thank you. I knew we could trust you. Just mum and dad's orders were strictly tell nobody. Sorry we kept it from you." She said slowly.
I started the car.
"Well we're going out for Lunch now, so hopefully it might take your mind off it a bit." I said with a forced smile, not having much confidence myself that everything would be okay. 85% doesn't exactly give us good odds....
"Okay I'll try." Zoe said.
I wrote up the whole next chapter, right, and it deleted it. Fak. It was really good too ! I won't even be able to get it the same! Ehhh.
