Stability. That's what her life has always been about. Every little thing meticulously planned. Carefully followed through.Consistency and constancy. Her life has never once ventured out of this.
She is like a boat at the sea, a girl who finds beauty in the ordinary. She's not supposed to be hit by the gales of a storm. A lone boat and a reckless storm are never meant to be, never meant to meet.
But it happens.
Mina closes her eyes, takes a bout of breath and reflects on how she got here.
Mina wakes up annoyed that Momo is loudly butchering some song again. Seriously, when is that girl ever going to get some respect for musicians?
"Mina, Are you up?" The older girl bounces on her bed like a kid on Christmas morning. If she isn't awake before, she's definitely now.
"I am." The yawning blonde untangles herself from the sheets. "Get off my bed Momo. I need to make it."
"Alright alright. Calm your tits. Geez." Momo jumps off the bed making a loud thud as her feet meets the tiled floor.
Mina carefully folds her sheets and puts them away in the laundry basket.
"You do know it's gonna get all crumbled again when you throw it in the washing machine." Jeongyeon grins at her.
She gives the taller girl a disapproving glance.
"That doesn't mean I want my laundry basket looking like a warzone. Or like Momo's room."
Momo cackles.
She has had this conversation a million times with Mina and gets the same answer everytime. She doesn't even know why Jeongyeon keeps trying.
"Okay, okay, sexy arse." Sana sits crossed legs on the made bed after smacking Mina's bum. "What are the plans for today?"
"Job hunting?"
"Something fun."
"Let's job hunt online."
Momo makes a face. "We've known you all our life. Your definition of fun never ceases to amaze us."
Mina chuckles softly as she sits beside Sana and reaches for the bottle of water on her nightstand.
She hasn't given her friends much of her time lately. Even though they would never admit it openly, she knows the loudmouth gang misses her just as much as she misses them.
"Okay, what do you suggest we do?"
She holds her breath, waits for their response. With her friends one could never guess what's going to come. They're spontaneous, reckless, borderline crazy even.
"Let's go to Vegas." Momo declares.
She spits out the water she's been drinking.
"Momo-chan." She glares as she puts the bottle back in its place, "Stop joking."
"I'm not. You know I can afford it." Momo says.
"You know I can't. I already feel guilty for not paying the bills."
"But Mina. It's my birthday tomorrow." Sana pouts knowing the younger girl weakens against it.
"No." Mina says with finality after a shameful moment of wavering.
"Fine." Sana sulks and begins to sigh rather dramatically.
It's after the tenth sigh, Mina softens a little and tells reluctantly, "Even if I did say yes, I'm sure we can't get tickets last minute. We sure won't reach there before your birthday."
"Yes, we will!" Sana smiles cheekily as she inches away from the blonde.
"Sana." Mina cries, hands on her hips, "What did you all do now?"
She tries to catch the older girl before she runs out of her grasp and fails.
"Our flight leaves in five hours. We've already packed your bags." Jeongyeon laughs.
"What?!!" Mina watches as her friends scurry away from the room cackling even louder.
"I so hate you all right now." Mina whispers to the three girls who are busy watching films on the screen before them.
"No, you don't." Jeongyeon replies distractedly.
"How long is this flight going to be?" Mina sighs.
"Eleven hours. If you don't stop whining, about a lifetime." Momo quips.
Mina smacks the back of Momo's head earning an ouch and a pout from her companion.
'This is the most random thing you all have ever done. I swear to god you're all getting crazier by the day."
Sana laughs as she holds Mina's hand.
"Just close your eyes. The flight is about to take off. I can't have you puking on my favourite pair of shoes."
Mina goes for another smack which Sana expertly dodges.
Mina knows deep down what this trip was about. Min. She has got dumped by her fiancé Min only the day before.
It is solely her fault. Her frustration at being made redundant, her inability to find another job, the rising bills and inadequacies has turned every day into a nightmare.
Min became her vent. He has taken the silent treatments, mood swings and quiet nights patiently, until he couldn't.
She understands his decision, but it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt.
She rubs her temples and holds back the tears as happier times and memories mercilessly assault her mind.
"You're going to be fine." Momo squeezes her hand and Mina smiles back gratefully at her.
She knows the words aren't meant only for the take off.
"I love you all. Eventhough you all are certified nutcases."
Joengyeon peels her eyes away from the screen and reaches across Momo to pat Mina's head. "We love you too Barbie. Now close your eyes because the plane is about to take off."
