Nayeon sits with the members on one side, waiting for the judge to call upon their number.Couple of months ago, she had no idea of agreeing to the divorce.
Things are different now.
You're the villain in our story. You'll always be the bad guy.
The younger girl's words rattle around in her head, tearing at her guts.
She has to finally set the one thing she loves the most in the world free.
"Are you sure you want to do this?"
Jihyo's hand is comforting on her shoulder.
Nayeon nods, brows furrowed in thought.
If she just turns her head to the side a bit, she knows she can see Mina.
She longs to look at her but doesn't.
Because she is not sure her heart can handle anymore suffering.
Despite herself, she looks over the crowd and meet the eyes of her soon to be ex wife.
Mina looks tired, exhausted. Her eyes look pained, miserable.
They continue to hold the glance, neither one willing to break it.
Their number being called break them out of their reverie.
The judge narrows his eyes slightly as he looks between the two young people in front of him. He frowns as an odd feeling settles in his chest.
"Reason for divorce?" He asks carefully, gently even, because the girls look like they would break if he spoke any louder.
"We don't get along well."
Mina replies in a shaky voice. Her throat feels parched and her heart screams at her to shut up.
"I'm quite difficult to live with."
Nayeon affirms with no hesitation.
He is surprised how they don't place the blame on each other, how they never say there is no love in the marriage as he asks a few more questions and scribbles everything down.
"Case adjourned to two in the afternoon. The decision will be announced after lunch."
Nayeon nods as she mulls over his words.
In two hours they're getting a decision.
-A decision that is going to rip Mina away from her. A decision that is finally going to make the younger girl happy and free.
This marriage is really over.
The crowd around Nayeon disperses. Only the members, Mina's family and friends still linger around.
Nayeon passes a sweeping glance to her left.
Mina feels someone watching her.
Whatever she is saying to Jeongyeon dies at the back of her throat when she turns to her side and a pair of dark eyes lock with hers.
She sees Nayeon approaching her and like specks of metal drawn to a magnet, she finds herself taking a few steps toward the singer to meet her halfway.
Everyone watches them with rapt attention.
Nayeon stops at a respectable distance from Mina. If she got any closer, she knows she won't be able to walk away.
"I wanted to give you this."
She opens her wallet and takes a picture out. Her eyes are soft and tender as she gazes at the picture in her palm.
