She blinks her eyes, unable to believe what she just heard. She doesn't move, doesn't breathe, her heart pounds loudly in her chest.
Mina was in love with her? Is this some kind of cosmic joke?
Momo studies Nayeon with unwavering attention. She hopes she hasn't sent her into shock.
"Are you having me on?" Nayeon finally talks.
"Yeah, because that's the first thing on my mind."
Momo releases herself from Nayeon's hold.
Nayeon feels her throat tighten.
"How did you not see? You hurt her so many times."
The older girl winces at her words.
"But she forgave you every single time."
"Why do you think she walked out of the family dinner when Min was badmouthing you? Why do you think she came home a sobbing mess only to tell you aren't the bad guy? Why do you think she broke things off with Min when you walked in on her? Why couldn't you see how much she loved you?"
Momo jabs a finger to her chest with each question.
Nayeon's chin quivers.
"Have you not seen the way she looked at you? God, it was pathetic how smitten she was."
Then look properly. And maybe you'll finally see.
Nayeon closes her eyes. She covers her face with her trembling hands.
"How did you not see her love for you Nayeon-chan?"
Momo almost yells.
An involuntary whimper escapes Nayeon's lips.
Mina was in love with her.
She has given herself completely, both emotionally and physically to her, and she has offered to pay for it.
The girl she is madly in love with, has loved her back and she has been too blinded by her own darkness to see it.
See me. You've never seen me. Not even as a person, let alone a wife.
Momo watched as Nayeon bends forward, pressing her palms to her face, choking on her sobs.
A tiny part of her wants her to suffer as much as Mina did, does.
"I am in love with her too."
Nayeon says, her voice breaking.
"I know."
Momo sees the pain in her teary eyes, she sees how inconsolable she is.
Just like Mina.
And the rational part of her knows that the older girl is suffering just as much as her.
She pats her back gently until her sobs die down.
Nayeon takes a deep breath.
Mina loved her. Maybe, still loves her.
That's enough.
She knows what she has to do next.
She needs to fix herself before she can fix things with Mina.
Mina deserves the best things in the world. And she is going to the best version of herself for the girl who loved her.
For the girl she is in love with.
For her wife.
The first smile in four months forms on her lips when she whispers the words to herself.
My wife.
Momo pretends she doesn't hear that, she pretends that her heart doesn't melt a little at the sight of the toothy grin on the singer.
Nayeon walks into Boram's office with a mission the next day.
"I need you to send me to therapy for however long it takes. I've spoken to the members and they don't mind a hiatus. I need you to fix me unnie."
Boram smiles at the girl she has watched grow from a scared kid to a damaged adult.
"I will."
Nayeon drops to the chair in the office, like she has exhausted herself emotionally. "I'm not even sure if this will work."
"You're doing the right thing Nayeon-ssi."
Boram reassures.
"You might want to back out of this, want to change your mind. Whenever you feel that way remember the next thing I'm going to tell you."
She has all of the younger girl's attention now.
"Remember that Mina refused to take the house. She refused to take a single penny from the contract."
She sees Nayeon looking stunned.
"You weren't a contract to her. You were more than that."
She sees tears threatening to spill from the younger girl's eyes.
"Anytime you think this therapy isn't working, it's overwhelming, just remember she loved you for you. She only took your memories away with her, not your money, not your fame, not a house that is her happy place."
Boram pats her hand warmly.
"You are her happy place now Nayeon-ssi and I think you know that too. "
