It takes three days of Sana's persistent phone calls, Momo knocking at her door threatening to knock it down, Jeongyeon leaving food on her doorsteps for Nayeon to finally cave in and accept the invitation to dinner with Mina's family.Three days without her grandmother.
Three days of feeling like she wants someone to just hold her tight to make this pain go away.
A certain someone who probably hates her with every ounce of her being at this very instant.
"I'll come."
She reluctantly agrees at least for them to stop feeling guilty like they've done something wrong.
This situation is all her own fault really. She had everything and lost it all. She has nobody but herself to blame for it.
She takes Mina's wedding ring and rolls it around gently in her palm.
"Come Monday. You'll be gone too."
Her heart doesn't ache like she thought it would when she finally admits the reality to herself out loud.
Maybe she has gotten used to feeling so much pain, her heart has now become numb to any new onslaught of aching emotions.
Her eyes feels dry like there are no more tears left in them.
Mina has a tendency to break every single one of Nayeon's expectations, and a few hours later she manages to break her heart, stomp on it, send a shooting pain through what she she thought of as a numbed heart.
The tears she thought has dried up stings at her eyes as she listens to the spiteful words thrown at her.
She hasn't expected her heart to break another time at the hands of the younger girl.
Apparently there are a lot of things only Mina is capable of making her feel.
Nayeon is picking at her food, her eyes blank as she stares at the plate.
Mina's family and friends buzz around her, trying to get her to eat something.
She tries to swallow a morsel of food but the lump in her throat makes things difficult.
She takes a good look at the food. A plate of hot and spicy Tteokbokki stares back at her.
Only two people know how much she loves it. One of them is gone and another one wants her to be gone from her life.
"Is this some kind of a joke?"
Nayeon hears a collective gasp from the people in the room when a low voice full of disbelief comes from the door.
She doesn't look up.
Her heart which she has assumed was dead, kicks back to life and races slightly in her chest like it always does whenever she hears that voice.
"The one place, the one place I thought that understood me." Mina continues in a retired voice. "You have to destroy that too Nayeon?"
Nayeon clenches the chopsticks tightly in her fist.
"Darling." Mina's mother begins tentatively, trying to approach the girl at the door.
"Don't Mama."
Mina steps back, dropping the leash that holds an excited dog.
Romeo runs to Nayeon who's at the table and begins to excitedly lap at her feet.
"Figures, even my dog has turned his back on me." Mina laughs bitterly, shaking her head.
Nayeon doesn't move.
She wants to bend down and pick up the little guy, but she stands up quietly, dropping the cutleries onto the tray.
"Darling, please come inside." The oldest Myoui's voice is gentle, as he stops Nayeon from leaving with a hand to her shoulder. The gesture is not missed by Mina, hurting her even more. "Let's talk about this like adults."
"No." Mina yells loudly, uncharacteristically, making everyone jump.
"No papa. I'm not coming inside. It looks like you all have comfortably forgotten how I spent three days doing nothing but crying under this very roof. Because of her."
She points an angry finger at Nayeon who is still looking at the floor beneath her feet.
"What did you do Nayeon? Flashed fancy gifts in their face?"
They wince hearing the irrational words coming from her.
"Does it feel nice to have my own family choose you over me?"
Nayeon doesn't answer which only infuriates Mina more.
"What happened to I don't want to get know anything about your or your family Nayeon?"
She mocks and notices the singer flinch slightly.
"You took everything from me, my body, my heart and now you have to take the only thing I had left for me. Fantastic. Well played."
Mina claps slowly, the sound masking the sound of Nayeon's breaking heart.
The singer shifts slightly on her feet as a thick silence descends upon everyone in the room.
Nobody knows what to say to dissipate the tension in the air.
"You know what. Have fun Nayeon. I'm leaving."
"No."
Mina turns slowly on her heels when she hears a determined voice come from behind her.
"You don't have to go. I'll go."
"You haven't even eaten." Mina's mother begins, only to be cut off with a hug that is heavy with agony.
"Thanks for everything." Nayeon smiles, blinking back the tears in her eyes.
Mina looks at Nayeon as she walks defeatedly to the door, her gait slow and pained.
The older girl stops by her side.
Their eyes, stained by tears, meet across the short distance.
"I will never stop loving you Mina.I don't know how to."
With that she is gone.
Mina leans back on the doorframe, her chin quivering with tears that threatens to completely wreck her.
