"I'm going to be absent tomorrow," Donghyuck yawned the next day during their short break

"I'm going to be absent tomorrow," Donghyuck yawned the next day during their short break.

No more needed to be said because Chenle knew his friend's calendar by now. The poor omega's heat was due. "Oop, want me to swing by after school today? I can bring some sweets over. I know you've probably been craving them for the past two days."

"You know me too well. That's why," he feigned a sob, "I might just have to kill you."

"Yeah, sharpen that knife. Don't answer your door tomorrow for any sketchy alphas, and if someone comes into your house, whip that fine blade from beneath your pillow and go for the kill."

"...Right... I'll do just that." But honestly, it was only a single day that he needed to be absent. After the first eight hours, the medicine kicked in and made the heat bearable, so on top of using the red brand of suppressants, he would be perfectly able to attend school without a bother from Thursday onwards.

Chenle supposed it was Donghyuck's impending heat signals towards him that made him feel protective today, but as his omega friend, he'd make sure his buddy's week of heat went smoothly. It was reciprocated when the opposite situation occurred, or in other words, Donghyuck gave him the same treatment when Chenle's heat was playing out. "Do you have enough suppressants?"

"I always do."

"Juuust checking. I bought some extra ones on Saturday with Jisung because he caught me on my way to meet up with my associates. It was a bummer, but I got a free hot chocolate out of it, so..." He shrugged.

Donghyuck raised an eyebrow wearily and tilted his head to the side. "You bought suppressants with an alpha? Wasn't it awkward?"

"Should it have been?"

"You-" Donghyuck ended up retiring in his seat with a long, drawn-out sigh, taking a swig from the carton of apple juice he'd bought for the short break from classes. "Never mind." For all the world, it was like the omega had taken Jisung to the mature section of the comic shop and acted like it was no biggie. But hey, his friend didn't have much of a filter on a good day. "Don't enjoy school too much without me."

"Yeah, I'll make sure I only have the time of my life during history. Don't worry."

After a few minutes of back-and-forth banter between the two friends, two more shadows joined the table. Two pairs of hands landed on the surface and two matching smiles aimed themselves at the raven-haired boy. Donghyuck squeaked at the sudden interruption to their chat and looked up in confusion.

"Mr. Zhong Chenle," Jaemin greeted and slid himself onto the chair beside him. Jeno took the one to Donghyuck's right, so now the new arrivals were facing each other like Chenle and Donghyuck were. "How's it going?"

"It's going... good?"

This time, Jeno slotted into the abrupt conversation and gave him a cute eye smile. "Is Jisung around? We assumed he'd be nearby if you're here."
