"You're so casual that I can't tell what you're thinking."Jisung turned his head to stare at Chenle, hand raising to catch his cheek and lean on his elbow. They were supposed to be doing work for their absent teacher but the substitute couldn't care less if they did or not. So both boys had their books splayed out in front of them to look productive. Jisung was actually going to be productive, but clearly Chenle was not. "I hadn't noticed."
Sarcasm, the omega noted dryly. "I'll rephrase. I can often tell what you're thinking, but there are times that you're unreadable."
"I think I'm very readable."
"Alright then, Park. Play it that way. Think of something that makes you happy and I'll try to guess what it is."
Jisung looked longingly at his open notebook and the lidless pen waiting patiently for him to use. They'd have to wait a bit longer. He smiled in a way that it looked like he could possibly be frowning. "I'm ready." Soon enough, a picture of Chenle's annoyed face came to mind. It was a memory of when they went suppressant shopping and the omega was affronted that Jisung didn't buy anything. He hadn't thought about that in a while and it was impossible for him to keep a true grin under wraps. And there they had it, he was being easy to read.
"You're thinking about your dad's bread."
"Not even close, although it certainly is up there with the image in my mind."
"Hmm..." He observed Jisung closely. At first, Chenle mentioned his difficulty understanding the moods out of irritation, but he couldn't really remain that way with the alpha. Those eyes... He looked away and sucked in a breath. "That box of cigs waiting for you under your mattress?"
"They aren't even under my mattress, but in any case, you're further away."
He bounced his knees beneath the desk. Edging his seat a little closer to the younger boy, he leaned across the wooden surface to get up in his personal space, winking jokingly. "Yours truly?"
"Yes. It wasn't that hard, was it?"
"Okay okay." Then it sunk in. "Wait a minute-" he looked at him with a charming smile, "I make the Park Jisung - formerly part of a group of jerks and also the smartest kid in our year - happy? You're buttering me up."
Jisung raised his arms in surrender. "It is what it is."
Chenle's mind was put at ease about the alpha's at-times poker face. He didn't need to be able to read him so well as long as Jisung told him what he was thinking, which he just did. "Okay, well, just... don't go around buttering up any omega you see."
"Oh, I save it all for you."
It was a strange sensation that passed over Chenle next. His smile faltered as he felt his face heat up, but not in the expected flattered way. It was his heat reacting to Jisung's silent pheromones. He stood up slowly and sent a sideways glance in the alpha's direction. This had never happened before. "I'll be back in a moment. Teacher, may I go to the toilet?"
