"Chenle, do you like anyone right now?" Donghyuck asked curiously. It wasn't a topic they ever really discussed, and especially at school.
Said boy dropped the straw of the carton from his lips in surprise. This conversation would go one of two ways: either Donghyuck was asking because he was curious, or he was asking because he himself liked a person. And so Chenle tried to figure out which direction the question was destined for. "Do... Do you like someone, Hyuck?"
The boy didn't even fluster; only sighed in contemplation. "I can't tell."
That was his answer, anyway. It wasn't about Chenle. "You can't tell? Maybe it's just a phase then."
"I thought so as well but these days, it's getting blurrier... and more difficult to figure out the nature of it."
The raven-haired boy slurped at his drink again and stared off into the distance, wondering how to address the dilemma. If Donghyuck didn't even know how he felt, then how could Chenle? "Is it a guy or a girl?"
"An alpha male."
"Well... have you tried ignoring him to see if the inklings get weaker?"
Donghyuck pursed his lips. "This is where it gets tricky; you see, I'm exposed to him quite often and it makes it difficult to ignore him. And what's more, I'm still on my heat and it's practically impossible for me to ignore an alpha right now. You know how it is; they're all eye candy until tomorrow. It'll end tomorrow."
"Yeah, gotcha. I'm guessing this is all relatively recent then." The nod confirmed it all. With fingers crossed, the alpha male would be Mark. But Chenle knew better than to expect because Donghyuck was an unpredictable guy. For all he knew, this alpha could be someone only the tanned omega knew. Unlikely, but not impossible. And he wouldn't ask who it was because his friend would tell him that if he wanted him to know.
"Le, I'm really worried about this."
"Uh, is he nice? He has to be. I can't see you liking an asshole."
"He is nice, and it's part of the reason why I'm so conflicted. My hormones have been all over the place for the past week because of the cycle and I can't tell how superficial my emotions are right now."
Chenle, in an act of comfort, moved from sitting opposite the boy to sitting beside him so that they could keep a bit more quiet. Not to mention that omegas naturally were quite calming, and Chenle was no exception, for all he wasn't typical. "Hey, don't think too hard about it. Let me tell you something." He sipped again before placing the carton down on the table. "Those hormones we feel during heat? The ones that make us want to jump an alpha? They're not so random that they suddenly make you develop feelings."
Donghyuck squinted at him but also felt quite soothed by the invisible vibe of the omega. "Really?"
Chenle nodded. "You must've had your eye on this alpha before and maybe you hadn't noticed until it's been turned sexual by your heat cycle. All alphas are attractive to you right now, but a crush isn't conjured by all this."
