Me and JJ are just friends.

Sure there may have been a time or two that we explored some not so friendly things with each other but that was a long time ago.

I don't think I have those type of feelings toward him. I mean we've been best friends since the 3rd grade, he's like a brother to me. Everyone else seems to think we're dating...I guess it doesn't help that sometimes JJ and I play along for fun.

But, recently things have gotten different. Usually JJ would be flirty but sarcastically, now It's more of a girlfriend and Boyfriend type of flirt. I think he fell for me but I don't think I fell for him.

Right now we are in the Twinkie following some island map to a church to find some cross that belongs to Popes Family. Me and JJ are sitting in the back, John B and Sarah are in the front, and Popes sitting in the middle with Kiara.

Pope was rambling on about Denmark Tanny being one of his ancestors, but I wasn't really paying attention. I was paying attention to JJ.

He was playing with his bracelets but I think he was trying to calm him self down, he looked scared.

"Hey, you okay?" I whisper, placing my hand on his shoulder to catch his attention. He flinches at the sudden movement but relaxes after realizing it's me.

"Sorry, I'm just thinking." He re-assures me, giving me a small smile. I can tell something's off, he looks like he's afraid of something.

"Hey what's wrong you look like you've seen a ghost?" I joke, trying to lighten the mood.

He Looks up at me, his mouth opening to say something but before he can get the words out he shuts it and shakes his head.

"It's nothing. Just scared that the stupid cross isn't going to be there, 'cause then we've basically lost everything." He shrugs. I eye him skeptically, having a feeling that's not what's on his mind at all.

I think about calling him out on his obvious lie but I change my mind and decide to drop it. It's clearly something he doesn't want to talk about so I should push.

"I'm sure it'll be there, It's gonna be okay. Besides, even if it isn't, we got each other, no amount of money and gold could buy a friendship like this." I grab his hand and bump his shoulder with mine, trying to cheer him up. He just gives me a tight lipped smile before looking down at our hands.

"Hey, Lovebirds! Stop flirting we're here!" Sarah Calls out to us, John B and Pope were already out of the van heading towards the church. This whole hint meant the most to them because it had connections to their family.

JJ let's go of my hand and gets out of the van, not saying anything else. He helps me out and we walk towards the entrance of the church where we saw the others go.

When we get inside we see Pope freaking out. John B tries his best to calm down but it doesn't seem to be helping much.

"It's not here! It's not fucking here!" Pope yells. He sits down on one of the church benches and puts his head in his hands, muttering something about being too late. Kiara and John B sit down beside Pope and try make him feel better.

I sigh, feeling dumb for having such high hopes. When I look over to JJ I see staring at Pope with a look of defeat on his face.
