Chapter 19: A good night (M)

Their usual routine happened the next day with Minji cooking and her leaving after a few hugs and kisses. Yoohyeon wishes that her day would end great today, without homophobes bothering her. She was in a good mood, especially how Minji teased her earlier. Even though she was just on her way to work, she already wanted to go home. Once she reached the hospital, a nurse approached her.

“Good morning, Dr. Kim. The hospital director is in your office.” Yoohyeon pulled a confused face and just nodded. She was quickly reminded of what happened yesterday. Shit…. What did Choi pull out this time? She sighed and went to her office. When she opened the door, the hospital director was sitting on the couch, looking at some of the photos that were on Yoohyeon’s desk. They greeted each other and the director ushered Yoohyeon to sit in front of him. 

“I heard what happened yesterday.” Fuck. I knew it. Yoohyeon thought as she nervously fiddled with her jacket. The director was just staring at her so she spoke up first since she couldn’t bear the silence.

“I’m sorry, Director Yang. I should’ve just ignored Dr. Choi. I’m sorry too for causing the ruckus in the emergency room yesterday with my argument with Dr. Choi. I promise-” She was cut off by the director.

“No, Dr. Kim. Don’t apologize. I’m not here for your apology. I’m here to apologize instead. I’ve been hearing a lot from the other staff that Dr. Choi is very VERY,” Director Yang emphasizing the very, “disrespectful and rude. And well, racist and homophobic now too.” Yoohyeon smiled slightly.

“I’m sorry, Dr. Kim. We’re finding ways to fire him but it’s not easy with his connections. The hospital won’t punish you or anything for defending yourself. Don’t back out, take courage, and just defend yourself, okay? When things get too hard for you, you can always approach me and we can relocate you to a different branch temporarily. Although for me, you’re very helpful here and to be honest, I don’t want that but for your safety and health, I’m willing to. I’m not one but I’m your ally, Dr. Kim. I’m happy for you both.” He said, pointing to the picture frame that had a picture of her and Minji in it. 

“Thank you, Director Yang. I’ll try to avoid him from now on. And thank you for trusting me and not firing me because of….. That.” The director understood. He waved his hands in protest,

“No, Dr. Kim. You don’t have to worry about me firing you. I didn’t look at you for your sexuality, but your skills, and you’re exceptionally talented. I still remember how much convincing we did just to get you and I don’t think I would like my efforts to be wasted just like that.” They both laughed at that. Yoohyeon remembered that there were three directors that wanted her in their hospital. Yoohyeon chose Director Yang’s hospital because he was nice to her and also, at that time, the hospital was in a bad condition. So the angel that she is, decided to work and offer her life there. And because of that, their hospital is one of the best in South Korea now. The director stood up and brought out his hand for a handshake.

“Please keep up the good work, Dr. Kim. I trust you with the general surgery department.” Yoohyeon stood up too and grabbed the director’s hand. 

“Thank you, Director Yang. I won’t disappoint you.” They let go and the director left Yoohyeon’s office. She exhaled in content before she changed to her uniform. Today was a good day, she can feel it. Her mood was good, her heart was light. So what did Yoohyeon do since she feels so happy? She decided to call her one and only love, Kim Minji. In less than 3 seconds, Minji answered her phone.

“Hi baby!!” Yoohyeon said excitedly in a high tone. Minji was shocked with the enthusiasm and tone of the girl. She chuckled while saying,

“Hi Yooh. You sound so happy today. I’m assuming something happened?” Yoohyeon grinned while she was dangling her feet as she was seated in the bench of the garden in the hospital.
