Chapter 27: Only the two of us

Minji and Yoohyeon arrived in Jeju at 10:26 pm. It was quite late, yes, but they both felt so good and alive. It was Minji’s first time going to Jeju that is not related to filming. She filmed one of her movies here and it was great, but it’s better since Yoohyeon is with her. It’s also Yoohyeon’s first time going here that is not work-related. Yoohyeon went here before when she volunteered to be part of the medical group going to Jeju. Yubin and Handong’s gift for them was a rented car for their whole stay in Jeju. Giving a text to them, Yoohyeon entered the driver’s seat after making sure that Minji’s safe in the passenger seat and their things were secure in the trunk. 

While they were driving, Minji pointed to one of the open fields.

“Yooh, look! That’s the set where we filmed the movie that I told you about!” Yoohyeon looked for a moment. 

“No way….” Minji was confused.

“What do you mean ‘no way’?” Yoohyeon snickered. 

“That was one of our volunteer places too. We set up a medical tent there and gave free check-ups and stuff.” Minji gasped.

“You’re lying.” Minji crossed her arms and looked at Yoohyeon suspiciously. Yoohyeon sighed and grabbed her phone and gave it to Minji.

“Open it and check my gallery. There’s an album that is dedicated to that only.” Minji opened Yoohyeon’s phone with ease since Yoohyeon gave her password to Minji. They already agreed to know each other’s passwords but with a condition. Permissions must be asked before opening each other’s phones and if the owner of the person doesn’t agree, they’ll let it go. 

Minji scrolled through the gallery and saw a folder named ‘Volunteer in Jeju’. She opened it and opened the picture of Yoohyeon, standing in front of the set.

“No way….. It is the same place.” Yoohyeon grabbed Minji’s hand and laced it with hers.

“I get it now. I remember that we were supposed to do that for 2 weeks but it was cut short to 1 week because someone else was using it blabla and all that.” Minji laughed.

“And I’m guessing you didn’t care who was using it?” Yoohyeon glanced at Minji for a second. 

“Yeah. I bet if I saw you at that time, I would’ve fallen for you.” MInji blushed that brought out a loud laugh from Yoohyeon. 

"But yeah, I didn't really care because I just wanted to help people. Plus, I got one week of rest because of that so I was glad." Minji played with Yoohyeon's hand, often caressing the back of it.

"What do you think would've happened if we met that time?” Yoohyen pondered for a moment. What if they did meet during that time? Would they be in the same position they are now? 

“I don’t know, Ji. But I’m glad we didn’t. I- I wasn’t in a good place at that time. And I- I’m scared that if we did get together at that time, I- I wouldn’t be able to treat you well.” Minji gave a quick peck on the back of Yoohyeon’s hand as a sign of comfort.

“I’m glad we didn’t either. I wasn’t all that good too.” Their ride towards the place that they’re going to stay was quiet, with music playing from the radio, Yoohyeon and Minji often singing along. It wasn’t uncomfortable, but it was definitely helpful to process everything that just happened. They’re here, married, and they’re going to enjoy the first 2 weeks of their married life without any distractions. 

“We’re here, Ji.” Minji went out of the car to help Yoohyeon carry everything. Bora and Siyeon paid for their place to stay for the whole 2 weeks as their wedding gift. Minji gave a call to Bora after they settled in.
