The next few months were uneventful.
Since the day you and Shayne broke things off, you had become a shell of yourself. You woke up, went to set, did your job, and then went home. Not even the beautiful sights of New Zealand could aide your dull mood. And the smile the cast and crew would see you with? Fake. Always fake. You had attempted to cheer yourself up, to go out and have dinner with the cast and crew, but it always felt like something was missing. That one person that when you actually started to have fun and you wanted to tell them about it, they weren't there.
You didn't have a reason to smile. You just felt like such a shitty person for what you did. And you couldn't blame Shayne either. His reaction was perfectly valid for the situation, prior circumstances included. You had cheated.
Shooting had wrapped for the Spielberg film and you were finally back in LA. You sat at your kitchen table, leaning against your palm as Daniel droned on about all the press you were going to have to do. First was press for the rom com. You'd be paired with Chris for some of it but when taking recent events into account, it was better to keep you two separated in case anything was stirred up again. The drama had gone away for the most part. Going to a completely different country helped with the paparazzi issue and was one of the only good things about that situation.
"A car will pick you up and take you to the press junket on Monday. You'll do a series of interviews until Thursday when you fly out to Boston for the rest. You'll stay there until the premiere next Friday."
"Okay." You agreed, half-listening.
"Alright, we got that settled..." Daniel mumbled to himself. "Now, business aside, how are you doing?" You raised your brows at the phone.
"How am I doing?"
"Yeah, it's been a crazy time for you lately. I just want to check in." You smiled to yourself.
"I'm alright, I guess." You lied. "Just tired from everything."
"You've definitely had a busy schedule." He agreed. "Are you doing okay with the whole... Shayne thing?" He said, seeming to choose his words carefully. You shrugged even though he couldn't see it. You sighed.
"That's been the toughest part I suppose." You answered honestly. "I just can't believe how much I messed the whole thing up." Daniel hummed, holding the silence for a moment.
"I mean..." He began. "If I'm being honest here, and this is completely off the record." He rushed, trying to navigate the difficult conversation. "Yes, you did fuck up a bit." He said, chuckling a bit. You exhaled your own chuckle through your nose. "But, if Shayne was really into you, and he wanted to work things out and be with you... He wouldn't have reacted the way he did." You rolled your lips back, taking in everything Daniel was saying. "It's not a matter of 'you cheated because you're a terrible person and didn't want to be in the relationship in the first place.' I know you. That's not how you are." You sniffled, tears beginning to form again. "I think that maybe Shayne might've been insecure about your relationship." He said. "I mean... It always depends on the person, but, if my boyfriend were to kiss somebody else like that, we would've sat down and had a conversation about it. It's the mature thing to do and something like that wouldn't have been that hard of a situation to handle if you would've just talked about it."
"I know... I just- I don't know."
"I know." Daniel said. "I just wanted to put my two cents in. Yes, it was a bad situation, but the outcome could've been completely different."
