"We don't speak of this." You said, now completely sober after that little wake-up call you just had.
"You're right." He agreed, chewing on his lip for a moment. "You wanna do it again?" He asked. You looked up to him, your hands propping themselves on your hips. You raised your eyebrows.
"Well..." You thought about it. "No! No! Chris, what the hell?"
"What?" Chris stood back, a bit stunned by your sudden seriousness. "(Y/n), it was just a kiss. Don't freak out over it."
"I know but...." You ran your hand over your face. "It's not just a kiss, Chris. Just... let's not talk about it right now or for a while..." You sighed, pinching the bridge of your nose. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be. You're fine." Chris said, trying to make it seem like he didn't care. He rocked on his heels for a moment. The awkwardness that filled the air was unbearable, but you didn't care. How could you do that? How could you let yourself do that? This was the first temptation you've had in your relationship and you let it get the better of you. And why? Because you hit the first bumpy section of your relationship and you jumped ship at the first site of trouble. You weren't angry at Chris. Let's make that clear. He's a single guy who's also had too much to drink. But you... you kissed him.
Your Uber showed up a few minutes later, the driver greeting the two, obviously flustered and anxious patrons. The ride began silent, the only sound being the soft music being played by the driver. You sat as far as you could away from Chris, ultimately just trying to sober yourself up and wrap your head around everything. You peeked over every once in a while to see him looking like a kicked puppy. After a few beats, you turned to him.
"Please don't blame yourself." You said, giving him the same look he was giving you. "It's not your fault and I reacted way too harsh towards you about it."
"No, it's fine." Chris said, slapping his hand down on his knee. "Honestly, I had been telling myself all night that it wasn't a good idea to act that way when you were drunk and I did it anyway." He explained. "It is just as much my fault as it is yours."
"No, it's not..." You argued. "Believe me."
"(Y/n), you have a boyfriend. I shouldn't have let you kiss me or I should've pulled away sooner." There was silence for a moment.
"To be honest, I think that kiss was a long time coming." You quipped, making you both laugh.
"Yeah, I'd be lying if I said I didn't clock you the minute I saw you at the table read."
"Yeah, I noticed." You laughed, playfully punching his shoulder. He smiled to himself, his upper lip raising to reveal his pearly white teeth.
"Besides, friends kiss sometimes." He replied, shrugging.
"Yeah, I kiss all my friends like that." You said, sarcasm lacing your tone.
"Well I guess I'm just special." He teased in a matter-of-fact tone. You shook your head at him. The corners of your lips quirked upward, happy that you two had at least somewhat resolved the issue. Silence took over again; however, this time it was comforting. The tension being dissolved for the most part.
You got back to your hotel in no time, Chris walking up with you to your room and giving you one last hug before he left.
"Please keep in touch." He said. "Call me, FaceTime... Even if you want to meet up one day when you're back in LA. I would be more than happy to meet you wherever you want me to."
"I appreciate that, Chris."
"Of course." He nodded. "Please don't hate me."
"I don't." You laughed, kind of offended by the comment. "It's good. We're all good."
