Adventures at the Temple

I huffed, pulling my foot back as I tried to regain my balance. I looked up to see Ben staring at me with matching intensity, his saber pointing towards me as if to challenge me to come at him again. Master Luke was watching from the sidelines, along with many other students, as we dueled.

Being the two top students at the temple came with perks, as well as drawbacks. I normally loved dueling, but I tended to get distracted whenever I dueled in front of other people. Ben helped me to keep my focus, but it was still hard sometimes.

I tried to block out the cheers and encouragements from both sides as I focused my breathing, taking in a deep breath as I glanced at Luke. He nodded toward me, lifting his hand to signal that the second round had begun.

I grunted as I immediately kicked my feet off the ground, backflipping over Ben before landing back down on the ground and twirling my lightsaber. Ben whipped around, his eyes wide with momentary surprise as he brought up his saber to meet mine.

I heard several whoops and claps from the sidelines as the duel continued, but I kept my focus. Ben ran forward at me, catching me off guard as I fumbled to keep up with his quick swings. My brow furrowed as my back hit the back of a nearby boulder, slightly knocking the wind out of me from the force.

I grunted, staring at where our lightsaber met, which was only a few inches away from my face. I could feel the heat that was radiating off of the blades, and for a moment, I panicked. Ben's eyes were slightly glazed over as he pushed even harder, causing me to flip around and his saber to slash into the rock to the side of me. He grunted in frustration, immediately whirling around and sliding his saber through the rock and towards where I was standing.

My saber had been knocked to the grass below, which left me defenseless as I tried to get myself out of the path of Ben's saber before it hit me.

I heard Master Luke call out to Ben to be cautious, but Ben didn't seem to hear him. It was almost as if he was in his own little world.

"Ben..!" I shrieked, gasping as I felt a red hot pain searing into my shoulder. It was like a burst of lava, sending white heat through my body, causing me to fall to the ground. I took in shaky breaths as I covered my mouth, letting out a muted cry as I tried to somehow distract myself from the pain.

I glanced at my shoulder, gasping loudly as I saw a noticeable dent in my shoulder. It wasn't a sever, but it was deep enough to need a force healing. My head turned immediately to Ben, who was now on his knees next to me, his eyes teary as he stared at the wound with an unreadable expression. His hands were outstretched towards me, although they hovered in the air, almost as though he was scared to touch me.

His hands were shaking.

"Ben..." I whispered, feeling a tear escape my eyes as I weakly clutched onto my shoulder. There was no blood because of the heat, which instantly cauterized the wound. His gaze flickered over to my eyes, which were wide and glossy as they stared up into his.

I could hear footsteps grow closer, hearing murmurs from the crowd.

Master Luke bent down to my level, holding out a hand to help me up. I gladly accepted, turning to Ben only to see that he was gone. I didn't say anything, letting Master Skywalker lead me up the steps of the Temple to a small bench. I sat down, my gaze trained on the cut.

I didn't expect that to happen.

When training, Master Luke had a somewhat small set of rules. But the first one was to never let a saber get close enough to your opponent to cause damage. Of all people, I wouldn't have thought Ben would be the one to give me my first scar.
