The Red Family & The Pyke Syndicate
The sun rose on Naboo with beauty unparalleled to any other planet. As beautiful as the sunrise was, the sunset was, even more, a sight to see. And that was easy to watch when you had a light freighter that could get you above the clouds.
Kane had purchased the vessel from a beady-eyed Togruta, who was seemingly more than relieved to get rid of the ship, although it appeared to be in mint condition. The exterior was sleek and silver-streaked, while the inside gleamed an opaque red color. It was one of the most magnificent ships Kane had ever seen, and he was more than happy to pay for it in spice.
He didn't waste a second to get home from the dumps of Kor Vella, Corellia. The ship had never flown before, not counting test runs to make sure everything was working well before purchase. Kane was more than thrilled to show it to his wife, Jessa, knowing she would appreciate the additional mini-cruiser implanted on the side of the freighter. It was the ship of their dreams, and they would be able to haul five times as much spice as they did before.
Kam and Kiaran, their sons, would be able to have their own rooms, and they would put the space to good use.
The ride back to Naboo was filled with loud Max Rebo Cantina Jazz on repeat, and Kane was using his time alone as an advantage knowing that Jessa despised said Cantina Band.
She was accepting of most of his habits and joys, but they often disagreed on music choice. The ship landed in front of their rented apartment on the outskirts of Theed City, Naboo. It took several attempts and many curses for Kane to figure out how to land the thing. He wasn't used to a ship this size and would need to get used to the gears before doing any spice runs.
Before he could even turn off the engine he heard a shout and looking out the window of the main cockpit he could see Jessa and his two sons running out of their flat, pointing up at the ship in wonder. He waved to them and watched attentively as they realized that the ship was indeed his.
Jessa cupped her hands over her mouth, bouncing up and down in excitement. Kam, five-years-old at the time, was clapping his hands, staring up at the ship in awe. Kiaran, who had just turned seventeen, had a massive grin on his face as he bent down and hoisted Kam onto his shoulders, running towards the ship.
Kam shrieked, gripping on tightly as he gawked wide-eyed at the freighter. Jessa rushed forward, jumping up and kissing Kane, her hair whirling in the dusk Naboo breeze.
She pulled away, seemingly lost for words. "I- how did you-" She stammered, gaping at the ship. Kane chuckled, reaching down and grasping ahold of her hand as he escorted her into the ship, pointing out all of the nooks and crannies, the cargo hold, and the turret & dorsal laser guns.
"This is the most glorious ship I've ever seen!" Jessa exclaimed, gliding around the large cargo hold as she watched Kam and Kiaran explore the cabins of the ship. "You're right, hun. A glorious ship she is." Kane agreed, crossing his arms as he admired it.
"Glory! That should be the name of it!" Kam chided, leaning over the banister with Kiaran by his side. "Good idea, Kammy!" Kane said, his voice echoing slightly.
And so it was called, Old Glory.
Ten years later
"Shit!" Kane yelled, slamming his fist on the accelerator as he tried to get his ship out of the unyielding vessel lock that was being projected onto Old Glory. "Dad, why isn't the ship moving?" Kam asked restlessly, tapping his fingertips on the side of his seat as he stared ahead with wide eyes. Kane grunted in response, annoyed that his once youthful fingers couldn't move as swift as they did once before.
