haunted by the past

I huffed as I listened to the mission report in the meeting. We had just sent a scout mission to surveil the rebel new base on Ajan Kloss, which was a planet in the Outer Rim. The base was slightly bigger than expected, with a lot of strategically placed weaponry and ammo.

"How can we possibly penetrate the base if our fighters can't even exhaustively make it into the atmosphere without being shot down?" One of the generals questioned.

I sighed, already exasperated from being in the presence of my subordinates.

But the general had brought up a good point.

"What if we land on the other side of the planet? We can trek our way to the base, and use disguises to infiltrate their base and take them by surprise." Hux offered, proudly glancing around at the other generals, his gaze settling on me with a grin.

I rolled my eyes from under my visor, nodding my head.

"Further examine your 'plan', General Hux. Then report back to me on your findings." I announced to him, standing up and dismissing all of the generals. I loved saying things like that to him. As soon as he felt remotely in power or as if he had the upper hand, I reinserted my authority. Saying things like 'report back to me' or 'there's still work to be done, general'. I looked forward to it in every meeting.

I couldn't focus during the conference. Something was wrong, but I couldn't sense what it was. I shrugged, making my way down the hallways towards the medical wing, where y/n said she would be.

I strode quickly down the hallway, noticing stormtroopers and lieutenants pacing past me quickly. The mission had gotten back to the ship, and the medical bay was probably full. I was about to turn back around when I heard someone shout my name.
"Ben?!" A panicked feminine voice shouted. I glanced around to see a young nurse around y/n's age. She appeared frantic, a light sweat covering her forehead.

She tugged back a strand of her blonde hair out of her face, quickly tucking it behind her ear as she whipped her head around in her search.

I furrowed my brows, walking over towards her. I waited another few seconds, wondering if I had heard her correctly. Sure enough, she repeated my name again, her voice cracking slightly. "What?" I asked with slight annoyance, walking up to her.

She seemed stunned by my presence but recovered momentarily.

"Supreme Leader, sir, I apologize, but do you know who Ben is?" She asked cautiously, her eyes wide with anxiety. Her adrenaline was allowing her to speak in such circumstances, and I knew that otherwise, she would've been too horrified to speak.

"It's me, I'm Ben," I replied quietly. She narrowed her eyes for a second before nodding. "It's y/n, sir." My eyes widened as fear rushed through my veins. "What about her?" I questioned sharply, my eyes scanning the room as I leaned in closer, folding my arms.

"Follow me." She urged, rushing back into the crowd.
A few moments later we arrived at a small curtained room. She moved the curtain aside and I took in a deep breath as I caught sight of y/n, quickly taking off my helmet.

She was lying unconscious on the bed, her face pale and her hair messy. The normal aura of liveliness and general enthusiasm was completely wiped from her, and all that remained seemed similar to a void.

She was drained, but more than I had ever felt from her before.

I quickly rushed to her side, gently shaking her arm.

I awoke to the feeling of someone tugging on my arm. I quickly sensed that it was Kylo, and I slowly opened my eyes. He was kneeling at the side of the bed with his helmet thrown on the ground beside him. He seemed panicked, almost scared. I weakly smiled up at him, trying to let him know that this wasn't a big deal.
