I took in a sharp breath, shrieking from the pain, and my hand immediately moved to hold my side as the ship shuttered in landing. I stared up with wide eyes to see Ben whip around, pacing over to me. "Ben..." I whispered hoarsely, my vision now clouded with tears.
He nodded feverishly, his eyes glossy as he shakily picked me up in his arms, slamming his hand down onto the button on the side of the door. It hissed open, and I squinted my eyes to see Rey & Poe.
"Y/N!" Rey screeched, running up beside Ben as he began pacing toward the med-bay.
"What the hell happened?" Poe whispered, his voice quiet as he ran alongside us.
"Dash. I'll kill him." Ben answered with a snarl, not even bothering to give an explanation. I scrunched my eyes in pain, gasping at every bump and turn.
"It's okay. We'll be there soon." He whispered, earning a nod from me. "Y/N!" I heard Lia scream, her voice was easily recognizable. "Lia, I'm sorry. I really couldn't help it this time." I gasped, opening my eyes slightly to see her horrified form standing in front of us.
She had elected to stay with the Resistance because of her closeness to me, and because she really had nowhere else to go. I felt bad, as if I was the one keeping her here. But she assured me that it was fine. Kane went back to Naboo to get some business cleaned up before Lia & Kiaran came back.
"O-Okay, y/n. I need you to stay awake. Can you do that for me? And keep your eyes open." She stuttered, motioning for Ben to put me down on a nearby bed. By now a fairly large group of people were either glancing over or moving closer in aid. I gazed down at the messy bandage, which was stained, sticky to the touch, and deep red.
Is this real?
It had now completely soaked the temporary bandage and was dripping down my dress, which was torn slightly.
I let out a small cry as Ben placed me on the bed, immediately crouching down beside it as he stared at Lia for further instruction. Nurses crowded around the bed, listening to Lia's orders as she screamed instructions.
"I'm going to be okay, right, Ben?" I whispered, looking up at him in uncertainty. He nodded, gazing down at me, his movements slightly hazy. "Remember what you always say, L/n? You can't die. You always find a way to live." He responded, his voice cracking towards the end as he cupped my cheek in his shaking hand. I smiled slightly, feeling another tear fall from my eye. I winced as Lia slowly removed the bandage to reveal the wound, which had a mix of dry and fresh blood all around it.
"Y/n, we don't have time for medication, we need to take this out right now. There's too much blood." She whispered urgently, wiping a tear from her eye frantically as she pulled on a pair of gloves.
This isn't real. This isn't real. This isn't real.
"It's going to be quick, but get ready. It's gonna sting a little bit..." She whispered, her brows furrowed deeply as she tried to concentrate.
My eyes widened in fear.
"WHAT? No, Lia, wai-" I was cut off as she swiftly pulled out tweezers, successfully extracting the bullet. I stared with wide eyes for a second before the pain set in, and boy it wasn't pretty. I screamed, my head pushing back into the pillow behind me as I gritted my teeth. My eyes shut tightly as I groaned, my throat slightly sore. I could almost feel Ben wince beside me as he tried to hold my shoulder down.
A few moments later I felt a hand weave its way into my own.
Leia.
I turned to see her, my head leaning weakly. Even though her face was slightly blurred, she looked panicked but was trying to hold it together for my sake. I let out another yell as Lia padded down the wound with some sort of cleaning agent, which I might have to admit hurt more than her actually removing the bullet. I could feel myself shaking as I felt Ben lean his forehead against mine, which was now turned to face him. "Where's mom?" I whispered frantically, my eyes scanning the crowded room.
