Chapter 10: Losers and the Goblins

Children run through narrow alleys and people prepare for another day of work as the morning sun rises over Lyugo.

"Hmmm." Gabriel hums while reading the crimson red book he received from his mentor.

Lynn, who sat across him, eats, minding her own business.

Ira, who observed them for a while approaches their table. "Uhm, Lynn, was it?"

"Mhm" Lynn nods while eating.

"Is your friend okay? He's been reading that book all morning. Doesn't he want breakfast?" Says Ira with a concerned look.

Lynn turns to Gabriel who was completely focused on the book in his hands.

"Gabriel? Hey Gabriel." Lynn waves.

The lack of reaction from Gabriel makes Lynn frown. "Don't ignore us!" She smacks the book out of his loose grip. It drops on the table.

"Hey-" Gabriel gasps.

"Don't "Hey" me, I was talking to you."

"Oh, I'm sorry." Gabriel sighs.

"This book is just really entrancing. I'm slowly beginning to understand magic. Magic isn't magic just for the sake of being magic, it has fundamental rules and is closely tied with the physics and natural laws of this world. There's so much science behind it!" Says Gabriel, seeming very enthusiastic.

"That sounds interesting and all but you should eat something. You barely ate last night too." Lynn says, resting her head on her hands.

"I don't really need that much food. But I'll have some scrambled egg I guess."

"Very well." Ira smiles.

"Make that two portions." Lynn adds.

"Hm? Do you want a second plate?" Ira tilts her head.

Lynn shakes her head. "Not for me."

Immediately after, squeaking of old stairs fills the room. Ivan walks down from the second floor into the inn, yawning and scratching his back. He was fully dressed but seemed half-asleep still.

"How did you know?" Gabriel asks, to which Lynn just shrugs.

Ira nods, scooting back into the kitchen.

"Morning." Ivan approaches the table, sitting down.

"You have to start waking up earlier, I'm getting tired of waiting around for you every morning." Lynn crosses her arms.

"Come on, a man needs his rest." Ivan smiles.

"Guess everyone can pass as a man these days." Lynn says casually.

"Hey." Ivan looks at her with an annoyed expression.

This cocky bitch..I really want to strike back but that wouldn't be good for the party right now...

He sighs, turning to Gabriel. "Anyway, how's the book Gab?"

"He's been reading it all morning, he's obsessed with it." Lynn crosses her arms.

"I'm not obsessed, I'm just trying my best to become a mage."

"Well, how's that going? Learned any spells yet?" Ivan leans back.

"Well...not really. This book is about basics, not specific spells. I understand how the...well, let's call them ingredients of a spell are pieced together to form a spell but I still have to find those ingredients." Gabriel explains.

"Uh huh..." Ivan nods, seeming completely lost.

"You know, I can borrow you the book once I'm done." Gabriel offers.
