Time slows when you're with him, it's like the world stops turning just for you two. It was raining outside of the two-bedroom penthouse that Stephen insisted that you moved into when you both found each other. The thick rain droplets pattered against the window, the rhyme could've relaxed you into a nap, but the music that played on the speakers softly kept you up. You had no idea what was playing it was some old playlist Stephen has saved on his phone.

You laid on the couch, your back against Stephen's chest. His scarred hands rubbed small circles on the swollen belly that held your child. You smile at the soothing sensation and take in a deep sigh. You feel the warm breath of your husband's brush up against the nape of your neck.

This moment is perfect, nothing could possibly go wrong. Laying on the soft couch with a few blankets messily draped over you and your husband as he thumbs over the light stretch marks that you have earned throughout this pregnancy. You giggle when you feel your child kick at their father's hand.

"We should probably talk about names, this baby is about to pop and we haven't even discussed what to name her once, " you say and crane your neck back so you can look up at Stephen, kissing the scruffy jawline. You hear his scoff, "I'm sorry, but 'her', no. I think you mean him, darling."

You shake your head with a smile, "It's gonna' be a girl, no doubt, " you say and he smiles. "Wanna' place a bet?" he teases and you laugh. "Seriously babe, let's think of names!" you say and hold his hand as it rubs across your belly. You eye the mole that was placed directly under the knuckle of your thumb, Stephen shared an identical mole.

You had always spent your days and nights alone, people were never your thing and there was too much risk. Far too much risk.

You sighed as you looked down at the open palm, the glittery dark purple sand-like ribbons that danced around your fingertips. Your black magic, your unexplainable abilities. Likely a mutation in your genetics, or as your family would call it, a curse.

You huffed and picked up your walking pace, your hands gripping at your backpack straps. You didn't have any idea where you were walking to, you were just walking. You had run from home when you were young. You had used your abilities to teleport to the place in the magazine that your mother had on the kitchen table.

Time Square, New York City

It looked so beautiful on the cover, with big screens and so many people on the sidewalks. So many people lived there, it must be worth it. You looked at the image hard and then closed your eyes. A rush of wind flew past your whole body and your heart stopped for a second. When your eyes opened, you were there. Staring at the big screens and busy crowds. No one paid any mind to you, you followed the crowd around.

At the time, you didn't know any English, you couldn't read the street names or ask anyone for help. So you just wandered.

Now here you were, 6 years later. You knew English mostly and you could get around well. 20 years old, still keeping to the shadows and working nights. You were walking home from your job as a waitress at a dive bar. It was busywork, the pay wasn't great, but it worked. It was early into the morning, the sun was to rise in a few hours.
