You sat across from Bucky, finally being able to practice your dream job. The team's psychiatrist, Dr. Lu has taken you under her wing and guided you. Told you what medications would go with what disorders. She taught you how to bring a person having a schizophrenic episode back to reality temporarily. She taught you how to calm down a suicidal patient who was threatening to kill themselves.

But, most importantly, she taught you how to deal with someone's PTSD episodes. Nightmares, anxiety attacks, flashbacks, depression, anything that came with it. You learned how to deal with it, and you would only grow more knowledgable. Before you knew all the information you learned from Dr. Lu, you vaguely knew what to do with your dad when he was having an episode.

During nightmares, you allowed him to hold you, and hug you, and make sure you were safe. Anxiety attacks, you pulled him somewhere private where you would do breathing exercises. Times were he fell into depression or felt extreme guilt from all the damage the Winter Solider has caused, you let him have his space. But, you also tried to distract him. You baked his favorite cookies, and watched his favorite movie, which was The Other Guys because he found it hilarious; you'd also play a card or board game.

Flashbacks were difficult. Sometimes, he'd fall into a vision where he was the Winter Soldier on a mission. A mission to kill the closest person to him, that was usually you. These would occur after a nightmare where he was in the middle fo a mission and he woke up, still in the assassin mindset. Or after he heard something similar to one of his missions. You could tell when he went into this space.

His face would change; his eyes would morph. From soft blue eyes to bored, dark dilated ones. The smile would fade into a tight line. He would stand, straight and tall, a little unhunched over as he panted heavily. Each time, you tapped on his shoulder to check on him and each time his metal hand would go straight to your throat, squeezing tightly. Sometimes this happened at work and you had assistance from every Avenger.

But, sometimes, this happened at home in the middle of the night. He would be roused from a nightmare, he would sit up and be in the Winter Solider's body, James Barnes was locked inside a cage and the Winter Soldier had his moment. He would get out of bed and search the house, and when he found you, sleeping soundly not a care in the world, he struck.

Your eyes would spring open when you lost the ability to breathe. You would look up and see what looked like your father, choking you, attempting to kill you. The panic would set in when black dots appeared at the corners of your vision. You would squirm and kick as you kept one hand on his wrist trying to pull it away. Your other hand looked for the gun you kept under the pillow.

You would never, not in all of your life, shoot the man that looked like your father. You would let a bullet fly right past his head, enough to make him flinch slightly, just enough for you to escape his iron grip. You would run out of your room and slam the door shut, sprinting to the nearest blunt weapon. That was normally the bo staff you kept in the umbrella rack. You used it to keep a reasonable distance from the Winter Soldier, and you were able to get in good hits with it.

Blocking and hitting and dodging from most hit or kick that came your way. Sometimes he was able to get a grip on your wrist, the hem of your shirt. Sometimes he was even able to get his metal fist to collide with your cheekbone. One time, he completely shattered your cheekbone doing this. The only way to get your father back was to knock him unconscious. You weren't allowed to fail at this, if you failed, that means you would most likely be dead and your father would be trapped in that awful cage.
