Sofia's POV
When I leave the apartment and sneak back over to Grayson's, I realize that all of my attempts were for nothing as Grayson sits with his leg crossed over the other looking anything but impressed.
"Hi." I mutter, closing the door.
"Where have you been?" He asks, eyeballing my suspiciously.
"I told you. I was going to see a friend from high school."
"Your car wasn't gone." He points out. Of course he would be observant over something like that.
"Okay, Dad." I scoff. "Since when did you start monitoring where I am going?"
He rolls his eyes at this and shakes his head in annoyance. Rightfully so I must add.
I walk past him and into the spare room, hoping that he just drops this entire thing. By the time I get into bed and under the covers- he comes barging into the room.
"Gray!" I exclaim, "I could be naked in here, you know!"
"I think there's something that i'm missing here." He says, giving me a look from the door and ignoring my statement completely.
"Missing something?" I question.
"Yes." He replies, entering the room and closing the door behind him. "So spill."
"What are you talking about?" I laugh, but there no doubt that I can feel panic rising.
"What am I not getting?" He asks. "Why do I get a weird feeling that something is going on with you?"
"What?" I ask quietly. "What do you mean?
"And....Shane." He finally admits.
That's it. I've been caught. He knows. Of course he knows. I've only been sneaking in and out of Shane's apartment. They're fucking neighbors, for crying out loud! Of course I would get caught.
"What?" I ask with a laugh. "Why would you think-"
"I saw you leaving his place, Sof." He sighs.
"Oh." I mutter.
"So...are you going to explain this?" He asks, taking a seat on the bed beside me.
"I mean...nothing is going on." I mutter.
"Okay, so why are you just going to and from his apartment the entire time you've been here?"
"Because we're friends." I laugh. "We've always been friends."
"Yes, but to be there every day and-"
"Grayson." I sigh. "I know how it looks, but...it isn't like that." I lie.
"Okay." He nods. "I'm going to take that to heart. Because Sofie...you can't have some kind of relationship with Shane. That's not possible."
"Why not, Grayson?" I ask with a laugh, feeling all of my aggravation come to the surface.
"Because you're my baby sister." He replies. "And he's a grown man."
"I'm an adult!" I say in my own defense.
"That doesn't matter, Sofia." He replies. "Shane is nearly thirty."
"Why are you so upset about this?" I ask with disbelief.
"Because I don't want for you to get hurt, Sofia." He sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. "And I don't see this going any other way."
"Why is it always me that has to get hurt?" I ask with a whisper. "Is it really so surprising that Shane might...actually like me back? I mean is that really that outrageous?"
