"You know that nobody needs 250K to survive right?" I say and he opens his mouth to counteract but I stop him. "I don't want you to feel obligated to take care of us. You have done enough and 250K is just too much. If I need help, I will ask, I promise, but showering us with all this money now is just crazy".

"McKenzie, I have known you for a very long time you have never asked me for anything. I doubt even if you were homeless, you would ask me for help" he says then chuckle.

"I asked you for help with this didn't I?" I respond.

"Only after you realized you had no other choice" he says pointedly.

"Isn't that when you're supposed to ask for help, when you have exhausted all other options? Why bother people if you don't have to?".

"It' no bother if you ask me and you know that. When you say things like that and refer to me as "people" it hurts. I am supposed to be more than that to you McKenzie and I want you to ask me for anything. Plus, the money isn't mine to give"

"What do you mean?"

"Jake and I had vested interest in a Venture Capital firm the money is his share plus profits. So technically the money wasn't mine to give, I'm just ensuring that it goes to Jake's next of kin, you"

"You know I don't believe you, where would jake get all this money to invest?"

"You don't know everything and what do you know about Jake and his finances? You brother was big on investing, he dreamed of taking care of his little siblings, he knew how much you wanted to go to Harvard, you spoke about it all the time. Jake wanted to make sure you could when the time came. That's why even when you didn't want to go because of finance I made up the fake scholarship"

"Oh boy, don't remind me about that" I say cringing at the thought. "You know Jake's 250K investment is just as believable as the Harvard tuition scholarship" I respond.

"This time it's the truth" he says.

He already made up his mind about this money and I don't want to fight anymore so I let it rest

"Brunette suits you, you wear it well although I prefer you blond!" he says looking at my hair.

"Thank you, Sophie and I are twinning" I say smiling.

"I can see that I thought I had entered the wrong apartment and saw her this evening. Changing your hair color was a good idea."

"Yup, a good dye job always completes a good disguise" I say, and he responds "you watch too many movies.

"What? You mean this doesn't work in real like?" I say dramatically placing my hand on my chest and we both laugh.

"You're crazy, I am going to miss you" he says, and I whisper under my breath, "I'm going to miss you too, Alex" he takes me into a hug and I melt into his arms.

"Will you be able to get my credits from Harvard under my new name?"

"I don't want any link from your old life with your new one, if there is anything to trace back to you then a good hacker will find you. My contact at Boston College is on maternity leave, I can get her to prepare good documents and student profile for you. They will be just as authentic as a student who attended the school, and it will not trace back to you".

We both agree that having a business degree instead of a law degree would be great since I don't want to have to fake being a lawyer. He tells me that he will mail the degree to me when he has it in his possession.

Alex wanted to see the pictures of the house in Walnut Creek. I watch him as he looks at the pictures carefully taking his time going through them in detail. Then he went on his laptop searching through his FBI software about the crime rate and a bunch of other details not available on a simple web search.
