The itinerary that I received from the HR details my two weeks long training schedule, and the onboarding process. As I was finishing up with Miranda the HR manager, a middle-aged woman short in stature, with red hair and green eyes a little too big for her small face enters the office with a wide smile.
"Taylor, hi, it's good to meet you. I am the Hospital Administrator, January Nanwitter. When you interviewed, I was on vacation, so we didn't get a chance to meet. Welcome, how is everything going so far?"
"Hi January, it's a pleasure to meet you. It's been going good so far" I say to returning the smile.
"Good, when you are done with HR, we will spend some time going the core duties and responsibilities that the position entails." January says.
"We are just about done here Jan. Taylor if there are no questions you can go with Jan."
"No, I think everything is clear, thank you Ms. Nathan" I say to Miranda.
"Please, Taylor, call me Miranda, and once again, welcome to Walnut Creek Hospital and I hope you will enjoy your time here with us" Miranda says.
The rest of the morning was spent training with January. The job is no doubt challenging, but its manageable. January was extremely easy to talk to, which is great since I will be working closely with her.
During our conversation I learned that January was promoted from the post that I currently hold to Hospital Administrator. She has been in her current role for only two months now after her predecessor retired. Up until a few months ago she was the assistant to the Hospital Administrator and held the post for over a decade.
"So basically, we are both new to our roles, Taylor I will offer as much assistance as needed and you shouldn't be afraid to ask. We are a team, and I will be right here whenever you need my help, just ask" she said.
Before I knew it was 5 pm and time to go home. I am sitting at my desk, finally I get some time alone to process everything from the day I just had. Jan walks in with her pocketbook and says, "we value work life balance here at Creek Hospital, Taylor. So, unless it's a pressing matter we never stay at our desk past 5pm, come along take your bag and let's go."
The week runs off without any hiccups and everything has been going great, Jan is even more helpful than I expected her to be. In the short week that I have been there I have met her husband and two sons. Turns out Matt the young boy who delivered our Pizza on our first night in Walnut Creek is Jan's son, small world. Jan and I have become fast friends and it feel so refreshing considering I have never really had any friends outside of Alex.
It's Friday evening and as usual Jan and I leave the office together at 5pm. As I drive out the parking lot my phone rings and I right away I know its Noah and I answer "hey".
"Hey baby, do you want to have dinner tonight and celebrate a successful first week?"
"Where are you?" I respond.
"I'm right behind you, my love" he says.
I pull over at the side of the road, his car stops behind mine and he gets in the passenger seat of my car.
I look over at him and the butterflies start to dance in my belly "hi" I say to him in a low sultry voice. Things have been weird between us since I found out he gave my car away without telling me.
"Hey baby" he says, I unbuckle my seat belt and grab his head and bring his lips to mine in a heated kiss. All the bullshit from this past week forgotten, because at the end of the day the only thing that matters is sitting right here beside me.
