Lorenzo

A look of confusion waved over her before speaking, "I'm sorry what did you ask?"

I smiled at the confused look on her face, it was cute. "I offered you a job would you be willing to take it?"

She hesitated for a moment before asking, "what would you need me to do?" leaving me to think. I wanted Anastasia close to me, to keep an eye on her of course. To make sure she actually wouldn't kill herself, it's not that I didn't trust her word, but I couldn't trust those she might interact with. Anyone or anything could be a trigger to what was causing her pain, the pain that I wanted nothing more than to help her battle. The last thing I wanted was to find her dead, her body laying lifeless somewhere. The thought left me uneasy, before shaking them away I finally settled on an answer.

"A maid. Would you be willing to work as a maid? The pay is $200,000 and you wouldn't have to worry about living expenses because you would be living here." Her beautiful brown orbs widened at the mention of the pay, and her mouth slightly parted at the last part. I watched as she was thinking over the answer, while I was mentally preparing myself for more offers in case she said no.

"Wow, I uhm," she nibbled her inner cheek making her cheekbones even more prominent, "is it alright if I continue to work at my day job, and I could work the afternoon and nights here? You could deduct my pay if that'll be an issue."

Surprised that she accepted, I quickly dejected her idea of cutting her initial check before assuring her, "that would be perfect." Content with her answer I gave her a small smile, but there looked to be more on her mind as her face was contorted while biting her inner cheek. Before I could ask what the matter was, her angelic voice questioned, "are you sure it's alright with me living here? Wouldn't it be invasive?"

Quickly to dismiss her doubts, "I don't mind the maids around, my house is always empty and I'm barely home anyways. You would be living in the east chamber, that's where my other maid, Laura resides as well. She's been here since the beginning and she could show you the ropes." With Laura around, I would have to notify her about Anastasia not knowing about my private business. I didn't want Anastasia to know the other life I live, she already seems to have her walls up. The last thing I want is for her to fear me like my men. I don't know why, but the idea of her being afraid of me pains me.

"Oh. I would like that, thank you," she gives me a small smile, but it's enough to make my heart feel strange. Reminding myself that I know nothing of this woman, I shake the weird feeling. "No problem, I'll show you the east chambers when I get back, you can just relax in the living room or look around, just don't go back over to the double doors I came out of and don't go to the basement." Staying out of the basement and my office was the best way to ensure she would not know of my family's real business; I trust her enough to know she wouldn't snoop around. Trust, not something I give so easily yet here I am.

"I wouldn't want to snoop around the place anyway, I'll just wait till you come back." Content with her answer, I check my watch before apologetically notifying Anastasia that I have to go.

"I see, well I'll be back in an hour or so. Just make yourself comfortable." She gives me her friendly smile and a nod of understanding, as I turn and walk off towards the west chamber.  Walking away, my thoughts can't help but drift back to the beauty that will now be living with me, until her very melodic voice yells "wait!"

Turning around, "Anastasia?" Looking over at the beauty flustered and the tips of her ears a shade of red, she tells me "I never asked your name. You saved me and we talked but I forgot to ask for your name. "

Chuckling at her face when she realized she was rambling for a little bit, I answered "Lorenzo Amoretto."
