Sarah's POV
When I arrived home from Hayes's house, my parents told me that we are all taking some sort of family trip to the beach. I honestly don't understand why but I shrugged it off, put on my bikini and went.
"Do I have to hang around you guys?" I asked, trying my best not to sound rude. My parents looked at each other.
"Well." There was a slightly pause. "No, but just don't go too far." My dad stated, as he finished setting out everyone's towels.
"I'm going for a walk." I stated, putting my phone on my towel my dad just set up. I was already slowly walking away.
"Okay." My parents said in unison. As I was peacefully walking on the beach, listening to the waves roll up on the shore someone was off in the distance, calling my name. It caught me off guard.
"Sarah!" I turned around, wondering who it may be.
It was Eric."Eric?" I mumbled to myself. He was now running my way.
"Hey Sarah." Eric smiled, now by my side. I continued walking along the beach and he walked by my side.
"Hey, funny seeing you here." I said, walking and looking at the sand. I easily felt the awkwardness in the air.
"Same to you." There was silence until he spoke up again, now on a serious note. "Okay. Look. I'm really sorry for what I did back at Starbucks. It was completely wrong and I want you back." Eric said straight up. I stopped walking and looked up at him, confused.
"Do you not remember? You were kissing Hayley. It's obvious that you like her more than me. If you want me back," I paused. "You're going to have to leave me alone because it's not going to happen." I stated, beginning to walk away."Wait!" Eric called to me and walked in front of me, preventing me from going. I crossed my arms across my chest, not looking at him. He used his hand to make me face him. I looked into his eyes, cautiously. Suddenly he pulled me in for a kiss. At first, I never realized what was happening. When I realized he was kissing me I quickly pushed him back.
"What are you doing?" I asked, taking two steps away from him.
"I know what I did wrong. It can easily be fixed." He pleaded for me back.
"Eric, I'm Sorry. It's not going to work out between us. You've made a dumb mistake and I've learned from it. Now, if you excuse me, I need to go." I stated, walking away.
"Sarah, please!" Eric tried to get me back. I quickly turned around.
"Eric, I said I'm done with you so please-" I paused, "Leave me alone. Permanently." I quickly turned around and began to walk away before I decide to regret what I said and go back to apologize to him. I left Eric standing on the beach all alone and unsure if he could really wrap his head out what just happened.
"Back so soon?" My mom asked, lifting her sunglasses. Both of my parents were out and enjoying the sun by trying to get a tan. I took a sigh, sitting down on the towel beside my mom.
"Yeah, I ran into Eric." I simply stated. They could tell in the tone of my voice that I wasn't wanting to talk about it so they simply nodded their heads and continued enjoying the sun.
"Your phone has went off once or twice too." My dad stated, not moving. I quickly grabbed my phone and see who was trying to contact me.It was Hayes.
Hayes: Hey Sarah. I have no clue what you're doing, but I would like to ask you something.
Shortly after, he tried texting me again.
Hayes: Well. Since you never responded yet, When you see this, call me. Love you!
I then called Hayes. He answered on the second ring. "Hey, Babe." Hayes answered.
"Hey." I smiled, "Sorry I didn't reply to your text that you sent earlier. My parents decided that we go to the beach for the afternoon."
"It's fine."
"What did you need to ask me?" I asked, standing up and beginning to walk with no certain destination.
"So, since your birthday is coming up, me and you are going to have a small birthday get together. Just us." I smiled after he said that.
"Aw. Really?" I chuckled, "Wait. Shouldn't that be a surprise?" I laughed.
"It is literally impossible to keep any sort of secret like that away from you."
"Yeah. True. I know everything that happens." I smiled, slightly kicking the sand as I walk.
"Your birthday is in three days right?" Hayes chuckled, slightly embarrassed.
"Yes." I laughed.
"Okay. Just making sure. But, I totally knew when your birthday was too." I could tell by the sound of his voice he was smiling. It was quiet on Hayes's end and all I could hear was the waves and people laughing.
"How's the beach?" Hayes asked, not wanting to get off the phone.
"Not bad. A bit boring though." I smiled, continuing to look down, as I walk.
"Would it be better if I was there?" He chuckled, causing me to as well.
"Yeah." I smiled, walking back. Now, I walked back and I'm now back where my parents are. They silently told me I have to go. I took a long sigh.
"I'm sorry, Hayes. I have to go." I stated sadly.
"Okay, have fun. I love you."
"I love you too." I smiled as I hung up.
"This is supposed to be a family trip. Spend some time with us." My mom slightly raised an eyebrow.
"Oh. Well, sorry I wanted to talk to my boyfriend." I snapped back.
"Do you want me to take your phone away?" My mom threatened. I took a sigh and said no. "That's what I thought." She said, then continuing to sun bathe. For the rest of the afternoon, we just hung out at the beach. I had high expectations for today because whenever I usually go to the beach it is always the best time ever. I'm always in the water and laughing the hardest I can at the simplest of things. Plus, I do usually go with all my friends too. This time was just my parents and I. But, all I did was sun tan, go on my phone and read at times. Or go for multiple walks with no destination.
When I got home, which was around four, I went straight to my room and stayed in there all night watching Netflix.
I haven't had some alone time in a while and I think I very much needed that.
By my fourth movie, which lead me to 10:38pm, I ended up falling asleep in a dreamless sleep.~
