One of my guy friends, Hayes Grier, has been trying for so long to get my attention. Almost 3 years. It's hard to ignore the fact that he's trying to make me fall for him. To me, it's obvious.
Whenever I see him, he has been trying to flirt with me, be super nice or compliment me. But, I just deny it or change the topic. He knows that I do that, but he hasn't gave up. I don't think he ever will give up. I like Hayes, but as a friend. He is one of my favourite friends but I'm not sure if it would be good for us to date. Will it?

"Uh, I'm so bored." My best friend, Brooke sighed. She was munching on some leftover Lays chips that I was snacking on last night from when we were watching a movie on Netflix. At the moment, I was slightly texting one of my other guy friends, Connor. I'm not into him! He texted me earlier saying 'Hey, it's Connor.' And that's how the conversation started. I promise we are simply friends. I haven't known him for that long.

I'm not as bored as Brooke said she was.
"Meh." I said, typing away. Brooke sneakily walked up to me to stole my phone, laughing. "Hey! I need that!" I tried to get my phone back. Brooke spoke as she typed on my phone, I continued to try to get my phone back.
"Dear Connor, all this time I noticed that you are the missing piece to my puzzle. I love you so much!" Quickly and just in time, I got my phone back. I deleted the message and typed what I originally meant to say. Brooke then told me that I had to put my phone away or she really would have sent that.
"I'm bored." Brooke repeated, sitting back down on the couch.
"If you didn't think I heard you the first time, I did." I laughed, sitting down beside her.
"I'm at your house so you should entertain me." Brooke smiled.

Honestly? She is like a sister to me, she helps herself to anything in my house and she volunteers to help with the dishes. In summary, my whole family loves her. Even if we're rude to each other, we don't take it seriously.
"I think you could entertain yourself." I chuckled, Brooke then grabbed my hand and tried to get me up and on my feet.
"Let's go for a walk. Maybe we'll run into Hayes." She chuckled, guiding me to my own front door. I playfully chuckled, even though I didn't want to laugh.
"I can't believe that Christmas is in 2 days." Brooke started, closing the door and starting to walk.
"Yeah." I smiled, knowing that New Years is getting close too.
"Is Hayes getting you something?" She asked, nudging my arm.
"Probably not, he has never got me anything before. If he doesn't get me anything, it's not going to be a big deal." I admit.
"What if he does?" Brooke asked, shocked at the thought.
"I don't know. Depends on what it is, I guess."

Brooke and I then walked in silence until we ran into Hayes.
"Hey Sarah, hey Brooke." Hayes smiled, giving only me a long hug.
"Hey Hayes." I smiled, hugging back. Brooke didn't say anything; she just observed everything.
"How are you?" He let go, still making eye contact.
"I'm good, how about you?"
"I'm amazing." He grinned. I smiled back.
"Any plans for Christmas?" I asked.
"Having Christmas with my family. Pretty boring at my house." He paused, "I have something to ask you."
"Okay, let's hear it."
"On Christmas Day, do you think you can come over? I have something for you." Hayes smiled, his eyes then meeting the floor.
"You actually have something for me?" I almost whispered. He nodded his head, grinning. Now that I think of it, I think I do have something for him. I was planning to do some last minute shopping. Maybe I can do that today?
"Yeah. We've been friends for as long as I can remember so I finally think you deserve something to show how much you mean to me."
"You don't have to, really."
"No. I have to, believe me." He grinned.
"Okay," I paused. "Brooke and I were just going on a walk, want to join?" I asked, but in the background I heard Brooke take a small annoyed sigh. I'm assuming she didn't want me to say that. But she was the one who suggested that we might run into him?
Why would she say-you know what? Whatever. I don't care, it's fine.

From the corner of my eye, I looked at her. She looked as if she was ready to leave me.
"Sure." Not long later, Brooke spoke up.
"Well, as nice as it is hanging with you Sarah I have to go. I'm helping my mom with super tonight." Brooke waved and left me alone with Hayes.
"But, Brooke!" I called out after her. But she still ignored me.
"Just wait here. I'll be right back." I said to Hayes. He nodded his head and stayed where I asked him to be.
"Brooke, what's wrong?" I asked, when I finally caught up to her. I made sure that I was in front of her so she couldn't continue to walk.
"Whenever you and I are hanging out and Hayes seems to magically appear and you always seem to ditch me for him. It's like you prefer Hayes over me." Brooke mumbled, not giving me eye contact.
"What? Brooke. No. Ever since I moved to North Carolina you have been here by my side. We have been friends for over 12 years. I've only known Hayes for 6 years. Exactly half the time I've known you. You are like my sister. Honestly? I will always prefer you over him." I finished, but she stared into my eyes. With no emotion whatsoever. Um..Okay?
"As much as that means something, I still have to go. Hope you enjoy your Christmas. Love you." Brooke grinned wearily then left me again. Slowly, I walked back to Hayes.
