Kaleb looked between the laptop screen and paperwork scattered across the desk. He was trying to get further on some work that he set aside when he first brought in the unknown female. To find out she was Kayleigh Terra Wrights, Alpha Jasper's daughter, meant there were survivors of their packs massacre. Where they were was another question. If she was alive that meant there had to be more from the pack alive somewhere. The immortals had worked the last couple years trying to figure out what happened that day and trying to find any clues as to where anyone could have gone, but nothing. No packs took in refuges or survivors in the months that followed. There were no leads, not even hints as to what happened to the pack members. The bodies of the dead were buried just outside their town while the search for the ones missing began. The pack had only just started standing on its own, Jasper being the second generation to take it over after his mother Alpha Jacquline. It was a rough start but Jaqi and her mate Xavier made the pack strong once they were together. She was quite a strong-willed woman herself overcoming any problem thrown at her. Her mate would later become more of the intimidating force to back her up. I remember how she was the only female that has managed to frustrate Notah and myself.

I began organizing the papers again, staring at the paper I came across, Kayleigh's file. The Immortal wolves kept files of the wolves born to help keep track of each packs' history. If the pack began to flourish, we would get an increase of paperwork on newborns, or if something happened to cause the packs decrease or downfall, we would deal with necessary paperwork to handle it. Most packs find us for the correct papers, get it filled out and send it back, not all do so. Sometimes one of us would have to go to the packs to ensure they got it done, even if it was just us filling it out ourselves from the information we gathered. We didn't enjoy doing this work. But we came to an agreement after a few major incidents in the past that lead to multiple pack massacres and even more packs numbers cut in half. This was a good way of keeping track of all the pack's history for any future problems that would arise.

Kayleigh's papers held the 'missing' status on them. I wasn't ready to change it just yet. There was still a chance of the pack killer being out there, which changing her status to alive would more than likely put a target on her back. Especially if there was a chance that they could access it. I needed to search around again to figure out if anything has surfaced in the last month about these packs. Until the one responsible is caught she needs to remain hidden from public's eye. We were going to need to decide on what to call her till this is solved and figure out how to disguise her as well. A lot of work is going to be done to keep her safe. I sighed. This was tiring. Trying to figure out how to solve this problem and also keep her hidden in the process.

My cellphone started vibrating. It was probably Alpha Mark again. I ignored it and went back to the paperwork. He was starting to piss me off with his so-called check ins. I was one of the Immortal Alphas, I didn't need checking in on. After a couple of minutes my cellphone went off again. I stopped and looked up. Was he really going to do this? Then it hit me, the ringtone I had set for him wasn't the one playing. It was the main ring, which means it could be anyone calling. I reached over and grabbed it, looking at the number. It was an unknown number. I frowned. Not many outsiders had my number. I sighed as I touched the button to answer then hold it to my face.

"Alpha Kaleb speaking." I answered, "Who is this?"

"Uh... umm..."

There was a pause but I could recognize who it was, they must have given her the phone today. I'll have to remember to add it into my phone with a different ringtone so I can know it is her next time.

"Kayleigh?"

"Ah! Yes! Um.... Luna Paige said I would be able to get ahold of you with the phone... and I...."

I had a smile across my face before I realized it.

"Were you testing to see if you would actually get me if you called?" I asked.

She was quiet for a second. I held back a chuckle.

"Um.... Yeah," She answered. "I also don't.... have much else to do in here."

"The Luna told me they would have you set up with various entertainment with the phone. Was that a lie?"

"No! It's just...."

The line grew quiet again, for a bit longer this time.

"Are you alright?"

"I just...." She started, sounding like she was getting emotional.

I stood up and walked over to start gathering my things.

"I use to watch movies with my sister...." She sadly spoke.

I paused. I reminder of her past. One that was more than likely never happen again.

"I'm just...." She stumbled, "I just don't really want to be by myself right now..."

I stood there thinking. I probably should go over to her but I remembered the work that needed done still. I frowned.

"What are you doing?" She asked, probably trying to change the topic.

"I'm doing paperwork, and some research on packs." I answered as I turned to my desk. "Trying to find answers."

I could gather up what I needed into a bag and go over to the hospital. It has been a couple days since I was there for a visit. I felt antsy for being away this long and hearing her voice made me want to see her in person right now. I'm sure she was feeling the same, especially since she gave me a call this late at night.

"So, the Immortal Alphas do paperwork?"

She sounded confused. I chuckled.

"Yes, we actually deal with a lot of paperwork." I answered her. "We are more involved in dealing with pack issues than most of the mortal wolves would think. The paperwork we do helps up keep track of everything that happens between us."

I walked back to my desk and started sorting through my papers, gathering the ones that I needed right then and pushing them into the nearest bag. The last thing I added was my laptop.

"I'm heading to the hospital now," I spoke over the phone.

I heard her slightly gasp and I could only imagine her worried reaction.

"Just decide on a movie to watch when I get over there," I told her.

"But your work!"

"I can bring it with me, it's not hard to take with me to places." I informed her, "I'll be there in fifteen minutes."

"Okay....um...I'll see you soon."

"Yeah," I smiled, "I'll see you in a few minutes"

I ended the call with a smile. This was weird but I was slowly enjoying the idea of having a mate more as time passed. I finished gathering everything then left the office, locking my door behind me.
