Kayleigh awoke, startled and on alert. Every nerve in her body telling her to be alarmed and ready to fight. Feeling groggy from sleep trying to hang on she jumped to her feet, loudly knocking the chair she was in over. She shook her head trying to work the fogginess from her brain. A motion in the corner caught her attention and her body tensed. Her focus moved the person in the room with her, their scent she remembered but couldn't process who. They tried coming closer and a growl her lips warning to keep back, their hands went up defensively. The door to the room swung open and hit the wall. Another figure entered the room, their scent also familiar. They scanned the room then relaxed looking between me and the other one.
"What's going on?" She asked looking at me.
Her voice finally clicked where I was and who stood before me.
"Amy?" I sounded almost unsure.
"Uh, yeah?" She answered before swinging her head to him, "What did you do this time Daniel?"
"Nothing! I swear!" He yelled throwing his hands up then froze starting at me worried.
"Sorry," I apologized rubbing my hands onto my face. "I don't know what that was, my head was in a fog."
They stared at me for a moment in silence.
"You scared the piss out of me." Daniel finally said, sitting down on the floor. "Damn girl."
"I guess I fell asleep and I got startled when woken up. My head was in too much of a fog to remember where I was or who you were...." I explained looking up.
They were both in the middle of being mind-linked. I waited for their conversation to be done. Amy looked to me with a smirk. Daniel just sighed.
"Well, your bond is getting stronger with Kaleb." Amy spoke up, "He just asked if everything was alright. He felt something was off."
I felt the heat rise to my face. In embarrassment I tried hiding behind my hands but I could hear them chuckling. I sighed as I slid down to sit cross-legged position. I heard one of them walk over and peeked between my fingers to see Amy. I felt something wet stream down my face and I pulled my hands away. Amy now startled was trying to figure out what to do in a slight panic. I sat there in confusion. I could feel the hurt, the sadness, the pain, but it wasn't mine. It was so strong, but it wasn't mine.
"Amaryllis..." I whispered.
Amy paused. Now confused.
"Your... Sister?" She asked.
"Uh, yeah," I slowly looked up to them before explaining. "Sometimes we can feel each other's emotions, if strong enough. That.... Might be the reason for earlier too..."
I sat wiping my face of the tears as I examined the emotions flowing through me. She was having a rough time. He must be tormenting her. Sadness overwhelmed me. Here I was safe while she was stuck in the hellhole. Disgust filled my gut, a now shared feeling between us. My stomach turned and flopped making me start to feel nauseous. Every scenario played in my head as what could be happening to her right now. Frustration filled me as I fought the feelings from surfacing. I snapped my face to the floor and leaned onto my fists in an effort to bite the emotions back.
"What's wrong?" Amy's voice echoed in the room. "Are you alright?"
My voice escaped me. I opened my mouth but nothing would come out. The emotions going through me silenced me, paralyzed me. My arms shook as my eyes filled with tears. What was that monster doing to my sister? The emotions running through her were suffocating.
"KAYLEIGH!" Kaleb'svoice echoed through the walls.
