Hawks flew overhead above the city, he was on the phone with someone. Clearly, it was no one he wanted to speak with, as the device was clutched tightly in his hand as he spoke into it with a deep scowl. "Yeah...I think I am getting closer to finding out where the League is hiding now. Got a new friend that's helping out too." And he felt horrible about it, it just didn't feel right to do this. Not to her. "Relax, she doesn't know a thing about it. She doesn't even know that I'm looking for them. But she does know one of them personally."
Hawks cut whoever was talking to him off. "And before you think about sending someone to take her in. She's not involved with the league at all, she just knows Dabi. I think they had a little fling, of you know what I mean." The more he thought about it, the more sick he felt. All this time, she was hurting because of him. It made Hawks want to track him down and tear him a new one. But, priorities came before all else. That new villain on the loose had to be taken care of first, then the league, and then Dabi.
"Right, I'll do what I can. Now if you don't mind, I would like to get back to enjoying what's left of my day off." He hung up the phone and placed it into the pocket of his jacket. "Sorry for lying to ya kid. But heroes gotta do what a heroes gotta do..."
On the night of Y/n and Dabi's breakup, Hawks was patrolling the streets at the late hours. There was nothing that would call him to action like a villain attack or a on the run criminal, however, there was something, or rather someone, who caught his attention. None other than Dabi himself, leaving a civilian's home. But not just anyone's home, Y/n's home. The kind young woman he saved not too long ago and offered to walk home, the same woman who he provided comfort to when she was at her lowest.
Why the hell was Dabi there? And what had he done to Y/n?
Hawks was at a stand still, should he go after the villain or check on a possibly injured or dead civilian? The answer should have been obvious, go after the villain. But Hawks' feelings got the better of him, and so he silently swooped down and made his way to Y/n home. Just as Hawks was making his way to her front door, he saw the shadow of someone inside from her living room window. He crouched down and snuck over.
To his relief, as he looked through the window he saw Y/n. She was unharmed but...she looked devastated, Hawks tell that she was crying from the way she held herself, and how her shoulders would bob with ever breath. Dabi had done something to make her like this...and he was going to pay for it. Now filled with fury, Hawks shot back up into the air, eyes darting around searching for the flame user.
Yet he could not find a trace of him anywhere. "Damn it!" Hawks cursed. He should have gone for Dabi first. "What did you say to her?" Hawks muttered angrily. "And why the hell were you with Y/n you-" Hawks trailed off, remembering what Y/n had told him.
"I'm in sort of a bad relationship, if you can even call it that."
"I've been planning on finally ending it but somehow he always draws me back in. I hate it. He's like a drug."
"No way..." Hawks said breathlessly. He couldn't believe it, he refused to. Dabi, of all people, was dating someone as nice as Y/n? Why? How? Hawks' eyes narrowed, fists clenched tightly. "So you're the motherfucker who was treating her like shit..." As much as he wished he could get more involved, hero work came before all else. She needed to be questioned. If Y/n knew Dabi, she could know others from the League of Villains. But he was a hero, and so, he would do what all good heroes do.
And save Y/n.
