{Recap}

"Mitch," I grab my burning cheeks, "Don't be so dramatic."

"Kate how can I prove it to you," Mitch grabs my hand and holds it to his chest. I feel his hard chest against my palm and my eyes widen when I feel his heart underneath beating wildly.

"I love you," he whispers as his eyes connect with mine.

"I love you too," I answer softly as my heart swells, "I love you too," I laugh and cup his face with my hands. Mitch's eyebrows raise as he gives me a genuine smile.

"By the way Mitch," I giggle into my hand, "I didn't know you batted for the other team."

"What," Mitch looks at me confused.

"You make out with boys," I grab my chest mockingly.

"Shut up tiger," he laughs as he kisses my nose, "I kiss whoever I want."

Mitch continues to walk until we come across a stream. He sets me down on the ground and starts taking off his shoes gesturing for me to do the same. I quickly pull of my sneakers and socks as I chew my lip confused. Once they are off I knot the shoestrings of both shoes together and sling them around my neck. Mitch carefully helps me wade out into the water holding me up by the small of my back.

"Why do we have to walk in the water," I ask puzzled as we make our way downstream.

"It covers our tracks," Mitch grabs my arm to keep me from slipping on a stone. My stomach automatically clenches at the thought of being followed.

"Maybe they forgot about us," I whisper hopefully as I move along.

"I wish Kate," Mitch turns to me, "But something tells me they aren't going to let us go so easily." The color drains out of my face and my stomach curdles at the thought.

"It's all my fault," I sputter as we walk on the smooth surface of the riverbed.

"What," he touches my shoulder, "Are you talking about?"

"They want this component for some virus they are trying to make," I burst out as I grab my hair and tug, "They think I know it!" Mitch stares at me as his eyebrows raise in surprise.

"So that's why they are so aggressive," he says to himself as he runs a hand through his hair.

"It's my fault that we are in this mess," I bury my head in my heads as the tears begin to flow.

"If we're going to start blaming ourselves for this then this mess is all my fault," Mitch chuckles as he pulls my hands away from my face, "I'm the one who was stupid enough to let them bring us here."

"No," I shake my head as tears stream down my face, "This isn't your fault."

"But the thing about life tiger," he places his hands on my shoulders and I look up hesitantly, "We can't change the past, only the future. So it doesn't matter who's fault it is, we're here. Instead of being bummed out about it let's, just focus on getting the hell out of here and going home...ok?"
