(PHONE RINGING...)
The time was 8:30 AM on a quiet Sunday morning. Lisa fumbled to find her phone on the table next to her bed. She groaned softly as she grabbed the phone, answering it with her eyes still half-closed.
"Hello?" Her voice was raspy from sleep.
"Lisa..." the voice on the other end said, trembling.
Lisa immediately sat up in bed, wide awake now that she recognized the voice. "What's up, Hanbin?"
"Lisa..." Hanbin's voice wavered, as if he was trying to hold back tears.
"Are you two fighting again?" Lisa's tone was concerned, but she tried to keep it calm.
"A-Aniyo..." A sob caught in his throat.
"Hey, are you still there?" Lisa's worry deepened, her tone more urgent.
"Lisa..." Hanbin's voice cracked, barely suppressing a sob.
"God damn it! Talk to me, stop calling my name! Tell me what's wrong!" Lisa's frustration boiled over, and she raised her voice, trying to break through his hesitation.
"You were right, I saw them..." Hanbin's voice broke completely, a deep sob following his words.
A second of silence engulfed the call.
"That bastard!" Lisa mumbled in anger, clenching her fist.
"I need you right now, please come back here," Hanbin's sobbing continued, desperation and heartache evident in his voice.
(Doorbell rings)
"Hold on, there's someone at the door. I'll call you back, don't take your phone away from you," Lisa said, hanging up quickly. She rushed downstairs, muttering to herself, "Who's this now? I wasn't expecting any visitors today."
Upon opening the door, her eyes widened in disbelief when she saw Amanda standing in the doorway, looking as stunning as always.
"A... Amanda?" Lisa's voice faltered.
"Baba!" Her son’s excited shout caught her attention. Lisa's gaze shifted to the car behind Amanda, where Mr. Obdam was carrying her son towards the house.
"Good morning, Mr. Obdam," Lisa greeted with a deep sense of respect. She brought both hands level to her chest and touched her nose with her index finger—a traditional Thai gesture of respect. Mr. Obdam reciprocated with the same gesture, bowing his head slightly.
"Why did you visit so suddenly?" Lisa asked, surprise clear in her voice. She looked at Amanda, but before Amanda could speak, her father took the initiative.
"I just dropped them off here," he explained, turning his gaze to Amanda, sharing a look that carried a shared understanding between them.
"Alright, honey, I have to head to an important meeting. I'll pick you up before 6 pm."
"Thank you, Dad," Amanda nodded, then turned her attention to Lisa.
Mr. Obdam excused himself and left. As his car drove away, Lisa stood there, processing the unexpected visit and the whirlwind of emotions that came with it.
"Come in," Lisa finally said, stepping aside to let Amanda and her son enter. She knelt down to hug her son tightly, his familiar scent bringing a wave of comfort. "I missed you so much, buddy," she whispered, kissing his cheek.
Amanda watched them, her eyes softening at the sight. "I missed you too, baba!" her son exclaimed, giggling.
Lisa looked up at Amanda, her own eyes reflecting a mix of surprise and tenderness. "I wasn’t expecting to see you today."
