A week had passed, Jennie had thrown herself into her work, determined to make up for the time she had lost while in Paris. Her days were filled with meetings, project deadlines, and client consultations, yet she managed to juggle her professional responsibilities with her duties as a mother.
Jennie sat at her desk, having worked since early morning, going over some documents. Her phone buzzed with a message from her assistant-a reminder about an important meeting tomorrow. Jennie sighed and rubbed her temples, feeling the onset of a headache from too many late nights and too little rest.
The door to her office opened, and Jiyong stepped inside, holding a bouquet of flowers. He looked tired, the strain of the past week evident on his face. Approaching Jennie's desk, he placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. Jiyong's visits to her office had become a familiar routine.
"Jennie," he said softly, concern in his voice. "You've been working too hard."
Jennie looked up, recognizing the familiar timing of Jiyong's visit. "I know, but I'm almost finished."
"I understand," Jiyong replied gently. "But you need to take care of yourself too. Hyeong needs you to be healthy and strong."
Jennie nodded, the weight of his words sinking in. He was right, but balancing the pressure of work with her family worries was proving difficult.
"Come on," Jiyong continued. "Let's go home. You've done enough for today."
Jennie hesitated for a moment, then agreed. She gathered her things and allowed Jiyong to guide her out of the office. As they walked to the car, she took a deep breath, trying to release the stress that had been building inside her.
When they arrived home, Jennie feeling the weariness of the day fade as she stepped through the door. The moment she saw her son, Hyeong eyes lit up with joy. He rushed toward her, wrapping his small arms around her waist in a tight hug.
"Mommy! You're home!" Hyeong exclaimed, his warmth and enthusiasm instantly lifting Jennie's spirits.
Jennie knelt down to his level, returning his hug with equal affection. "Hey, my little man! I've missed you so much," she said, planting a kiss on his forehead.
Jiyong appeared in the hallway, watching the tender reunion with a soft smile. He approached them, placing a gentle hand on Jennie's shoulder. "I'll give you two some time to catch up," he said, his voice filled with warmth. He kissed Jennie's cheek and ruffled Hyeong's hair before heading to his study.
Jennie turned her attention back to Hyeong, her eyes full of love and concern. "How are you feeling? Are you okay?"
Hyeong nodded eagerly. "I'm feeling better now that you're here, Mommy," he said. "Mommy, can you read me a story before I go to bed?"
Jennie smiled, taking his hand. "Of course, sweetie. Let's go to your room, and I'll read you an exciting story."
They made their way to Hyeong's room, where they settled on his bed. Jennie read him stories, and they giggled together, the bond between mother and son evident in every word and gesture.
After a while, Hyeong's eyelids began to droop, and he yawned. He looked up at Jennie with a hopeful expression. "Mommy, can you sleep with me tonight? I sleep better when you're here."
Jennie felt her heart swell with love and gratitude. "Of course, my love," she replied softly. "I'll stay right here with you."
She helped Hyeong get comfortable, tucking him in before lying down beside him. Hyeong snuggled close to his mother, his small hand finding hers.
"Goodnight, Mommy. I love you!" he whispered, his voice already heavy with sleep.
"Goodnight my sweet boy," Jennie replied, kissing his forehead. "I love you, too."
As Hyeong drifted off to sleep, Jennie felt a profound sense of peace and contentment. She held him close, cherishing the warmth and love they shared, knowing that these moments were what truly mattered.
As the night grew deeper, Jennie drifted into a restless sleep. She was dreaming, haunted by memories of the past.
"Lisa," Jennie mumbled in her sleep, her voice laced with longing.
Hyeong was jolted awake by the sound of Jennie calling out. He shifted slightly, his small hand reaching for Jennie's. "Mommy, who's Lisa?" he asked sleepily, his voice barely a whisper.
Jennie, still caught in her dream, didn't respond immediately. Instead, she sighed softly, her brow furrowing as if she were reliving a painful memory.
"Lisa....Lisa, wait.." Jennie murmured again, a tear slipping down her cheek.
Hyeong's eyes fluttered open more fully, concerned for his mother. He gently squeezed her hand. "Mommy, it's okay. I'm here," he said, trying to comfort her even in his drowsy state.
Jennie stirred at her son's touch, slowly waking up. She blinked, disoriented for a moment, before realizing where she was. She looked down at Hyeong and saw his worried expression.
"Hyeong, did I wake you?" she asked softly, brushing the hair from his forehead.
"You were talking in your sleep, Mommy," Hyeong said. "You were calling out for Lisa. Who is she?"
Jennie was taken aback, her heart aching at Hyeong's question. "Uh... Lisa was... Ah... a friend of mine, honey," she explained gently. "A friend."
Hyeong nodded, sensing the sadness in his mother's voice. "It's okay, Mommy. I'm here with you now."
Jennie smiled, her heart swelling with love for her son. She kissed his forehead, pulling him closer. "Thank you, my sweet boy. Let's try to get some more sleep, okay?"
Hyeong nodded, snuggling into his mother's embrace. Jennie tried to fall asleep, but a flicker of fear passed through her, not realizing her son was awake. The dream continued to unfold, weaving a tapestry of memories and emotions that gripped Jennie's heart. At that moment, even in her dreams, Lisa's presence was overwhelming, reminding Jennie of the unresolved feelings that still lingered between them.
