Jennie had prepared an abundance of food for her friends, whom she hadn't seen in months due to her hectic schedule. The aroma of the delicious food filled the house, setting the stage for a joyous reunion. As she bustled around the kitchen, making the final preparations, she couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement about their visit.
"Ajumma, could you take a look for a moment? I'll just check on Hyeong, who's sleeping," Jennie pleaded, removing her apron. She was about to head upstairs when her anticipation was interrupted by an exclamation.
"Jennie!"
Her friend Irene had arrived, and she eagerly approached Jennie, excitement written all over her face.
Shortly after Irene's arrival, Wendy and Rosé joined the gathering, and their joyous reunion began. Amid their lively chatter and catching up on each other's lives, Jennie took a brief moment to excuse herself. She left her friends to retrieve the dishes she had prepared for their lunch.
Upon her return to the dining area, Jennie noticed her friends gathered as if they were deep in conversation. When they saw Jennie approaching with plates in her hands, they quickly returned to their seats, like schoolchildren caught talking during class, and an uneasy silence enveloped them.
Jennie was perceptive and sensed their unusual quietness, but she didn't address it immediately. Instead, she placed the food on the dining table and returned to the kitchen to fetch another dish.
"Did she hear us?" Wendy asked anxiously, concern etching her face.
"I don't think so," Rosé replied nonchalantly while savoring a bite of food.
"I hope not," added Irene, her worry evident in her tone.
In the kitchen, Jennie couldn't help but wonder about her friends' conversation. She felt a pang of hurt, worrying that she might be the subject of their discussion.
For the first five minutes of the meal, an awkward silence hung in the air. Jennie's friends exchanged nervous glances, uncertain about whether to broach the topic or keep it hidden. Finally, Wendy broke the silence.
"Jennie, umm... we were just discussing Irene's upcoming wedding. She mentioned Seulgi wants a beach wedding, and..."
"And Jisoo is planning a photoshoot for us," Rosé chimed in, cutting off Wendy.
"Really? But Jisoo didn't inform me," Jennie said, casting a skeptical look at her friends.
"It was a last-minute decision, and she might have forgotten to tell you," Rosé offered as an explanation. Wendy nudged her discreetly when she sensed Jennie's lingering doubt.
"Let's not dwell on that for now. We're here to enjoy this delicious meal," Irene interjected, attempting to steer the conversation in a different direction.
"You're absolutely right, Irene," Rosé agreed, helping herself to more food.
"By the way, when will your second wedding ceremony be held?" Irene inquired, attempting to shift the topic.
"Jiyong and I haven't set an exact date yet, but he mentioned it might be after his grandfather's 50th wedding anniversary."
"Isn't that event next month?" Rosé remarked with a teasing grin.
"I hope Bambam and I can make it to our 50th wedding anniversary, and when that day comes, I hope our love will be as strong as ever," Wendy said, bursting into laughter.
"You've stolen the words from my mouth, Wendy. But I suppose Bambam has about 48 more years to ponder it," Irene teased playfully.
"Oh, you little!"
