Jennie walked back to Hyeong's room, her emotions in turmoil. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she tried to compose herself. As she entered, Wendy noticed her distress immediately.

"Jennie, are you okay?" her friend asked, worry filling her voice as she stood up and approached her friend.

Jennie quickly wiped her tears and forced a smile, trying to appear calm. "I'm fine, Wendy," she said, though her voice trembled.

Hyeong's eyes fluttered open, as she heard Jennie's voice, "Mommy," he whispered, his voice barely audible.

Jennie took a deep breath and walked over to his bed, sitting down beside him. She gently stroked Hyeong's hair and leaned in to kiss his forehead. "Hi, my love. How are you feeling?"

Hyeong, quietly resting, looked up at his mother with concern in his eyes. "Are you crying, Mommy?" he asked softly, his small voice full of worry.

Jennie chuckled shooking her head, but her tears dropping, "No, sweetheart, Mommy just had a little moment. But don't worry, everything is going to be okay," she said, trying to keep her voice steady.

Hyeong reached out and took Jennie's hand in his tiny one. "Don't be sad, Mommy," he said, his eyes wide and earnest. "I don't like it when you're sad."

Jennie felt her heart ache at her son's words, but she smiled through her tears, determined to be strong for him. "I'm not sad, baby. I'm just remember something, that's all," she said, squeezing his hand gently. "And seeing you feeling a bit better makes me so happy."

Wendy came closer, her eyes full of sympathy and support. "If you need anything, Jennie, I'm here," she said softly.

Jennie nodded, grateful for Wendy's presence.

As she sat with Hyeong, talking to him and holding his hand, Jennie felt a renewed sense of resolve. No matter how difficult things were, she knew she had to stay strong for her son. She couldn't let him see her fear and sadness. For now, she would focus on being there for him, giving him all the love and comfort she could.

“I don’t understand, Jennie,” Seulgi said, her voice edged with frustration as she paced the room. “How can she not see that Lisa might be Hyeong’s best chance? It’s like she’s letting her pride get in the way of her son’s life.”

Irene, sitting quietly, took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. She knew Seulgi’s frustration stemmed from a place of love and concern. “Seulgi, it’s not that simple. Jennie’s not just being stubborn. There’s so much pain tied to her past with Lisa. It’s not pride—it’s fear, confusion, and everything she’s been through.”

Seulgi stopped pacing and turned to face Irene, her eyes flashing with anger and desperation. “But Hyeong’s life is at stake! How can she not push all that aside? We’re talking about finding a match that could save him! How can she not see that?”

Irene stood up, walking over to Seulgi and placing a calming hand on her arm. “I get it, Seulgi. Believe me, I do. I’ve tried talking to her, but Jennie has to be the one to make this decision. She’s Hyeong’s mother. It’s her right to choose how to handle this.”

Seulgi sighed heavily, her shoulders slumping as she sat down. “It’s just… it’s so frustrating. Knowing that Lisa could be the key, and yet, we’re sitting here doing nothing. I feel helpless, Irene. I don’t want to stand by and watch everything fall apart.”

“I know,” Irene said softly, sitting beside her. “But we can’t force Jennie’s hand. What she’s going through is complicated. She has to find the strength in her own time. All we can do is be there for her, offer her support, and trust she’ll make the right choice.”

Seulgi shook her head, her voice thick with emotion. “But what if her decision is the wrong one, Irene? What if it’s too late? I want to see Hyeong get better, to see him live a normal life. We can’t let this slip away.”

Irene looked at her with understanding eyes, her hand gently squeezing Seulgi’s arm. “I feel the same way, Seulgi. But pressuring Jennie won’t help. She’s already overwhelmed. We need to guide her, not push her away.”

Seulgi was quiet for a moment, her jaw clenched as she fought against the helplessness she felt. Then, with renewed determination, she said, “No, Irene, I can’t just rely on Jennie’s decision. Not when Hyeong’s life is on the line. If Jennie won’t tell Lisa, then I will. Lisa has a right to know what’s happening to her son.”

Irene was silent for a moment, surprised by Seulgi’s resolve. But she nodded, a soft smile tugging at her lips, feeling a mixture of admiration and understanding. “You’re right, Seulgi. Something has to be done. But let me do it.”

Seulgi blinked in confusion. “You? Are you sure?”

“Yes,” Irene said firmly. “I need to be the one to reach out to Lisa. There are things I need to face too. I’ve made mistakes in the past, things I never made right with her. Let me be the one to explain everything.”

Seulgi studied her for a moment, then slowly nodded. “Okay. If you’re sure.”

“I am,” Irene said, her voice steady. “It’s time for me to face what I’ve been avoiding. Maybe it’s time for all of us to confront the past.”

As they sat on the couch, a quiet understanding passed between them. The weight of their concerns seemed to lift slightly, though the road ahead remained uncertain. They both knew the upcoming conversations would be difficult, but with determination and love, they hoped they could help Jennie find the strength to make the right choices for Hyeong.
