Jennie sat in Dr. Lim's office, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. The weight of the past few days had worn her down, and the uncertainty of Hyeong's condition left her feeling on edge. She looked up as Dr. Lim entered the room, his expression somber.

"Jennie, I appreciate you coming in today," Dr. Lim began, taking a seat across from her. He opened a file and glanced over it before meeting her eyes. "I wish I had better news, but our chances of finding a matching donor for Hyeong are diminishing."

Jennie felt her heart sink. "But he's been doing better, right? The blood transfusions have helped."

Dr. Lim nodded, his expression sympathetic. "Yes, the transfusions have helped stabilize him for now. However, we need to be realistic about the long-term situation. Blood transfusions are not a permanent solution. Over time, Hyeong's body may struggle to handle them, and we could face more serious complications."

Jennie swallowed hard, fighting back tears. Dr. Lim noticed her truggle to respond, something that Jennie always hesitated to open.

Dr. Lim took a deep breath trying to compose the word how he could console Jennie. "We've exhausted many options in the donor registry, and the chances of finding a match through that route are slim. We have a greater chance of winning the Lottery than finding a legitimate donor."

Jennie looked at him, confusion and dread mingling in her expression. "What do you mean?"

Dr. Lim leaned forward, his tone compassionate but direct. "I believe you already know the answer, Ms. Kim, but it's hard to face. Biological parents often have a higher likelihood of being a match for HLA typing," he said gently yet resolutely. "If we can locate Hyeong's biological father, he might be a potential donor."

Jennie felt a lump form in her throat. The memories of her past with Lisa rushed back, filling her with a mix of emotions. She hesitated, the pain and trauma still fresh in her mind. Yet, she couldn't ignore the desperation in Dr. Lim's voice or the gravity of Hyeong's situation.

Jennie's eyes moistened, and looked away, her mind racing with memories and unresolved emotions. "I... I never wanted to involve her. It's complicated."

Dr. Lim nodded with sympathy. "I understand this is difficult, Jennie. It's not my intention to mess with your lives, but Hyeong's health and future depend on us exploring every possible option. Whatever complicated past you have with Hyeong's biological father, I urge you to set it aside and think about Hyeong's condition. We need to have her tested for HLA typing."

Jennie felt a surge of conflicting emotions. The thought of contacting Hyeong's biological father was daunting, but the thought of losing her son was unbearable. "I... I don't know if I can do it."

Dr. Lim offered a reassuring smile. "I know it's a lot to ask, but please consider it. Hyeong needs you to be strong and to do whatever it takes to give him the best chance at recovery."

Jennie took a shaky breath, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. "I'll... I'll think about it."

Dr. Lim nodded, his expression hopeful. "Thank you, Jennie. Every day counts, and your decision could make all the difference for Hyeong."

Jennie stepped out of the hospital, the cool evening air washing over her like a balm. The conversation with Dr. Lim about Lisa possibly matching Hyeong’s HLA replayed in her mind, a tumult of hope and terror. It was a glimmer of hope they desperately needed, but it came with its own set of daunting complications. The weight of uncertainty pressed down on her, mingling with the faint stirrings of optimism. Her heart ached with the complexity of emotions, leaving her unsure of how to navigate the path ahead.

As Jennie walked towards a bench in the nearby park, her mind raced, and her heart pounded with a pain that felt almost physical. How could she face Lisa after all these years? How could she confront her past, the scars, and the pain that had never fully healed?

Jennie's eyes welled up with tears as memories of Lisa surged back, overwhelming her. The love, the heartbreak, the moments she had tried so desperately to forget—all of it crashed over her like a relentless wave. The thought of reopening those old wounds was excruciating. She had worked so hard to bury those memories, to build a life free from the shadows of her past. Yet now, it seemed she had no choice.

And then there was Hyeong. Her sweet, innocent son, who had been kept in the dark about so much. Jennie had believed it was for the best, that shielding him from the truth would protect him. But now, with his life hanging in the balance, she realized that everything had to come to light.

Jennie sat down, her hands trembling. She closed her eyes, trying to gather her thoughts. She had to be strong for Hyeong, no matter how difficult it would be to face the others. Her confusion and fear were secondary to the possibility of saving her child. Jennie took a deep breath, steeling herself for the challenges ahead. She knew that the path forward would be fraught with difficult conversations and emotional revelations, but she was determined to do whatever it took for Hyeong's sake.
