Lisa was jolted awake by a sudden noise downstairs – the persistent ringing of the doorbell. She groaned, still half-asleep, and checked the time on her bedside clock. It read 9:30 in the evening.
"Have I slept that long?" she muttered to herself, slightly disoriented.
Lisa reluctantly got out of her bed, hastily adjusting herself. After a short while, she hurried downstairs, her curiosity piqued. To her surprise, she found Mr. Obdam waiting alone at the door.
Not wanting to keep her visitor waiting, Lisa returned to the living room with two cups of coffee in hand, her curiosity piqued as she wondered about the purpose of Mr. Obdam's sudden visit.
Not wanting to keep her visitor waiting, Lisa returned to the living room with two cups of coffee in hand, her curiosity piqued as she wondered about the purpose of Mr. Obdam's sudden visit.
"Nice house, I didn't think it would be bigger inside," Mr. Obdam complemented as he glanced around the house.
"Thank you, sir," Lisa replied politely. She was unsure why Mr. Obdam had come to her house late at night, but she refrained from asking, choosing instead to let him lead the conversation. She sensed that he had a specific reason for being there.
"I'm sorry, sir, if the coffee blend doesn't taste good," Lisa said as Mr. Obdam sipped the coffee she had prepared.
"Well, not bad," he replied, setting the cups down.
"So, are you leaving tomorrow?" he inquired.
Lisa was taken aback, wondering how he knew about her departure since she hadn't shared that information widely. However, she remained composed and didn't let Mr. Obdam see any signs of surprise.
"Yes, sir. It's just for a month, and I'll be back here right away," she responded.
"Oh, a month sounds short, doesn't it?"
Lisa found his tone peculiar and decided to ask, "What do you mean, sir?"
Mr. Obdam smiled and chuckled softly. "You know how straightforward I am, Lisa. There's only one reason why I came here. I want to tell you to stay away from my family, especially my grandson. I don't want you to come near them from now on."
Lisa couldn't believe what she was hearing. She quickly stood up from her seat, her disbelief evident in her voice. "You're making a mistake, sir. I have a right to my child, and you can't sever that bond so easily!"
Mr. Obdam remained composed as he stood up. "Well, perhaps you're right, but you've forgotten something important. I can do as I please, Lisa. Besides, you're leaving tomorrow, aren't you? Maybe this is the right time for Lithan to adjust."
Lisa listened to Mr. Obdam's purpose, feeling a surge of anger but managing to maintain her composure. She locked eyes with him and spoke firmly, "I have a high level of respect for you, sir, a respect you rightly deserve. But, you've also taught me the importance of standing my ground. One thing I'm absolutely certain of is that when I return, I will reclaim my son, and no one, not even you, can prevent me from doing it."
Mr. Obdam chuckled at her response. "Oh, is that a threat? Sounds intimidating. Anyway, that's what I admire about you, Lisa – your strong personality, the very quality I wished for in my daughter, but it's too late."
Lisa kept her composure, clenching her fists to restrain her anger.
"Keep it up, because we'll meet in court when you come back, Lisa Manoban," Mr. Obdam concluded with a smile before leaving her house.
After Mr. Obdam left, Lisa went to the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of beer, taking a long sip as she contemplated her situation. She felt unsatisfied, so she reached for another bottle and drank it greedily, not wasting a drop.
