Days had passed, there was still no news or progress in finding a donor for Hyeong. Fortunately, the blood transfusions had helped enough for Hyeong’s strength to gradually return. He was currently playing with Jisoo, who had given him a toy of his favorite character, Woody from *Toy Story*. His laughter filled the room, bringing a temporary relief to Jennie’s worried heart.
"Look, Auntie Jisoo, Woody can say 'There's a snake in my boot!'" Hyeong exclaimed, pressing the button on the toy to make it talk.
Jisoo smiled, her eyes twinkling with affection. "That's amazing, Hyeong! Woody is such a brave cowboy, just like you."
Hyeong giggled, holding up Woody proudly. "Do you think Woody can help me get better faster?"
Jisoo’s smile softened as she looked at Hyeong. "I think Woody will definitely keep you company and make you feel brave."
Jennie stood by the doorway, her heart a tangle of emotions. Seeing her son smiling and playful brought a sense of relief, but the looming uncertainty weighed heavily on her. The thought of Lisa as a potential match lingered in her mind, gnawing at her every moment. Time was slipping away, and she knew a decision had to be made soon.
Hyeong noticed her standing there and called out excitedly, "Mommy, come play with us! Woody wants to say hi to you."
Jennie forced a smile, her worry masked behind a façade of cheerfulness. She walked over to her son and Jisoo, kneeling down beside them. Taking Woody’s hand, she gently made the toy wave. "Hello, Woody. Thank you for keeping Hyeong company."
Hyeong's face lit up with joy. "Woody says he's happy to be here, Mommy."
Jennie looked at her son's bright eyes and felt a pang in her heart. She was determined to keep hope alive, for his sake. "Oh! Really? We're happy too Woody, I know you will be a great friend with Hyeong."
Jisoo glanced at Jennie, sensing the underlying worry in her cousin's eyes. "You're doing great, Jennie. Just take it one day at a time."
Jennie nodded, grateful for Jisoo's support. "Thank you, Jisoo. It means a lot to have you here."
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, interrupted their moments. Jennie turned, surprised, as Bambam appeared in the doorway, accompanied by Wendy. Hyeong's face lit up with joy at the sight of his favorite uncle.
"Uncle Skrrt! Auntie fairy!" Hyeong shouted, his excitement palpable.
Bambam entered the room, a wide smile on his face. "Hey, little man! How are you feeling today?"
Hyeong beamed, his energy infectious. "I'm feeling better, Uncle Bam! Auntie Jisoo brought me Woody!"
Wendy smiled warmly, stepping into the room. "We thought we'd come by and see our favorite little guy."
Jennie felt a wave of gratitude wash over her. Despite the dire circumstances, the support from friends and family made a world of difference. "Thank you both for coming. It means a lot to us," she said, her voice soft but sincere.
Bambam raffle Hyeong hair before turning to Jennie, his expression serious but kind. "We'll get through this, Jennie. Just hang in there. We're all here to support you."
Jennie nodded, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I know. It's just... so hard not knowing when or if we'll find a donor."
Wendy placed a comforting hand on Jennie's shoulder. "We won't give up. And in the meantime, we’ll make sure Hyeong has as much love and support as possible."
As Hyeong continued to play with his new toy, Jennie took a moment to breathe in the warmth and hope that her friends brought into the room. It wasn't a solution, but it was enough to give her strength to face another day.
