Ch. 38: All A Huge Misunderstanding

Jisung lets out an annoyed hiss as he moves the ice pack on his cheek, a bitter look on his face as he sits on the clinic bed, facing the other bed containing the now-conscious Juyeon.

Meanwhile, Juyeon lets out a rather loud sigh, her eyes staring up at the ceiling and her hands over her abdomen as she lies on her back. She had been listening to Jisung repeatedly hiss in annoyance for the past minutes, and it had actually been grabbing her attention several times already. "Does it hurt that much? Or are you just that irritated?" she finally asks, sounding irritated herself, and making Jisung turn his gaze to her for the first time since he had arrived at the clinic.

A frown then forms on his face as he looks at the girl. This girl lying on the clinic bed, her clothes and hair damp and her skin still pale, this girl with a past that had twisted her into something far from what she used to be... Jisung frowns at it. This is the reason why Hyunjin punched him? "Wouldn't you be irritated if your friend suddenly punched you out of nowhere even after you had saved the person they like from a near-death incident?"

"Isn't that a bit too specific?" Juyeon then asks, her brow raised.

Jisung just responds with a sigh as he drops the ice bag he had been holding to his cheek down to his side. He then looks at Juyeon with a dull expression. "... Aren't you going to say anything? About a different topic, I mean?"

Juyeon's expression then turns cold. She knows exactly what the boy wants to hear. "I told you, everyone, in fact. I kept on telling everyone. I didn't do it... What did you get yourself punched just so you would have a reason to come here so you could slander me? Is this your revenge for what I had told you that day?"

Jisung frowns yet again. Why won't she just admit it? But... that's not exactly what he meant to hear from her. "That's not what I meant." He pauses. "... Why did you try to kill yourself?"

Juyeon sighs at his question. Isn't it obvious why she had done that? "Well, if you had every single person around you wanting you to die, wouldn't you just end up wanting to yourself?"

The frown on Jisung's face suddenly disappears, and he just looks at the girl lying on the bed with pity. "Jeongin told me... about your past, just a while ago when you were still unconscious. He also told me he believes you didn't actually put that string there that day."

"Unfortunately for me, it seems only he believes that, huh?" Juyeon then asks, a bitter smile forming on her face. "It's alright, though. I can just try again later."

Her words immediately make Jisung's eyes widen, and he looks towards Juyeon in shock. "Yah! What do you mean?! You don't actually mean-"

"I meant I can just try proving myself again," Juyeon immediately inserts, later on finally turning her head towards Jisung as she frowns. "I'm still alive, aren't I? If I actually wanted to try and kill myself again, I would have already jumped out the window the moment I woke up when no one else was still around."

Jisung's expression then eventually goes back to normal as he sits back down.

"Thanks, by the way," Juyeon then adds in. "And, congratulations. I heard you and that rowdy elite are together now?"

Jisung just hums in response as he turns away from Juyeon. Why should she care if he ended up getting into a relationship with you?

"Oh, and... about what you said? About Hyunjin?"

Jisung's eyes widen before he turns back to her.

"What makes you so sure he still likes me, huh?" she asks, looking like she's just amused by the thought, though her eyes show how she sincerely wants to know the answer. It's a good thing Jisung noticed the latter, otherwise, he wouldn't have answered at all.
