At The Hospital...

The doctor nuzzled the doorknob and walked into Jade’s room. Alongside, a nurse followed with a silver tray in her hands. She walked directly towards Jade. He was asleep with Kate by his side.

“Hmmm... Hmmm...” The doctor wheezed to wake them up. He gave a dry, hoarse cough once again as they work up to face him.

“Sorry for disturbing you, ma’am, but we found a donor.”

“What?... I mean, who?” Kate raised her gaze to the doctor, flabbergasted.

“He said we shouldn’t disclose his name and identity until after the surgery. He said Sapphire Blac is his life saver, so he somehow owes this to her. We’ve already taken the examinations on him and he’s an eligible for her heart transplant.” The doctor retorted, convincingly.

“Wow. That’s good.” Jade replied in a hoarse, croaky voice. “How long will her surgery take?”

“I’m not sure, but it might take up to six to eight hours because the cardiologist would have to remove the VAD and replace it with the donor’s heart.”

“Okay doctor. I hope everything going on well.” Jade answered.

Though he just woke up. Happiness lightened up his eyes to the good news as the nurse pulled off a new syringe from its pack and injected him on his right arm. Jade’s forehead formed vertical lines as he consumed the pain. The nurse gave a small smile as she pulled out the needle. Placing a clean wool at where she injected, scratching it to wipe the blood and ease the pain.

Kate, alongside the doctor, standing at a distance, watched calmly until the nurse took the tray out.

“Make sure you rest, Mr Alejandro. Your kneecap is healing really fast. I suggest you use crutches for effortless movement. Ummm… Excuse me.” He slightly bowed his head before leaving.

Watching the door close behind him, Kate turned to Jade with tears hovering over her eyes. She grabbed her hanky and wiped off her eyes.

“Why, mother? Why are you crying again?” Jade narrowed his eyes at her.

“It’s nothing, my son.” She sniffed into the white hanky. I’m just so.... So happy right now. Everything is getting better. We got a heart donor for Sapphire and you’ll walk on your feet once again. I never watched you do that during childhood, but I’m here with you right now. It’s an honour being your mother, Jade. Her feminine voice went slim as she shivered at the last words.

More tears trailed down her eyes as she broke down into tears. Joyful, emotional tears.

A smile spread across Jade’s lips at the thought of it. He couldn’t wait for Sapphire to regain consciousness, but something felt wrong.
‘Who would donate his heart to Sapphire when she once saved him? Is he a secret admirer or someone I might know?’ Jade let out a sigh as he closed his eyes to think about it. A bead of tears rolled from the side of his eyes to the pillow.

And once again, he felt emotional about everything.

Lucas parked his car in the parking lot, alongside Mr and Mrs Blac in their own Mercedes car. About to go in, Mrs Blac mistakenly stumbled to the stairs and her heels went off. She tittered a little, but her husband was fast enough to hold her.

“What’s wrong, wifey?” John asked, in concern.

“My shoe. I didn’t know it wasn’t good.” Fiona sounded so fussy. Her eyes pulled up in a vertical frown.

“Don’t worry. We’ll find a cobbler around here.”

Lucas and Zoey looked back at them with curious faces. “What’s it, sir?”
