“Ummm... But why did you want to call him so urgently? I mean... You’re just getting better.” Fiona asked with a knotted eyebrow.
“Come on mum! I need to see him right now. Is he doing alright?” A frowned formed on her face.
Sapphire closed her eyes as if she’s trying to remember something. She quickly placed her hand on her chest and checked. Remembering the gunshot. There was a fresh scar on her chest. It still looked pink.
“W.. what exactly happened, mum?” Her confused eyes met with Fiona’s.
“Umm...my dear. You had amnesia, you see. You couldn’t remember Jade. He survived the bullet as well and your surgeries went successful. I’m truly grateful for that, but you know what? Fiona stared into her daughter’s eyes convincingly. When they knew you have forgotten everything, they all wanted to cut ties with you. Jade himself said the contract was invalid my dear so, why are you so worried about him when he’s long forgotten you.” She hides a malicious smile behind the words. Gently, emotionally. Fiona held her daughter’s chilly hands in hers, hoping she would understand.
“What?!” Sapphire went silent. She knew how heartless and mean Jade could be, but how could he do that? She thought. Is it true, dad? She turned to her dad, with her lips pulled down to the sadness overwhelming her.
Fiona winked at her husband with an assuring smirk to convince him.
“Yes, my dear. His mum convinced him.” John added.
A single tear rolled down her cheeks, as she could no longer hold the heartbreak. She fell into her hands shoulders as she buried her face into his shirt.
“That can’t happen. Not after everything.” she cried.
“Come on dear. Those people are heartless. They didn’t even pay you a visit. You used fire. Don’t go back to Jade, I beg you.” Fiona sniffed and wiped out the invisible tears she was shedding.
The couple held their daughter in a tight hug. Bright smiles lightened up their faces, hoping she won’t go back.
The following day, Sapphire got discharged and was giving medication to control her homophobia. The doctors also advised that John and Fiona should ease her off any worries and make her feel free and loved at all times.
Mr and Mrs Blac agreed and assured the doctor that they’ll try their best. Especially now that he won’t be paying any visits.
Finally, the blacks family came home with bright smiles, except Sapphire, that was still confused. Her mum helped her into her room and placed a kiss on her forehead.
“Try to rest, my dear. I’ll prepare your favorite catfish soup so, don’t think about anything for now, okay?” She pleaded.
A smile formed on her lips in agreement, even though everything still looked puzzled. Sapphire took off her closed and walked into the bathroom to have a warm shower. Wiping down the water from her auburn hair, she rubbed the pour if water that was giving blurry effects to her sight. Sapphire stood under the shower, trying to remember what last happened. A flash of their last meeting flooded through her mind.
**Flashback**
“Tomorrow would be our last day. But.. I want you to know that. You mean more to me every single day.” Her lips stammered to the words as if it were her last.
“There’s something I need to tell you, Sapphire. I lov-“ Jade raised his eyes to hers and noticed her eyes were closed.
She knew very well that she fell into his hands and he promised to save her. ‘He came to save me, so he got hurt, too. I really need to check on him if he’s doing alright or not. I can’t stay quiet, knowing he rushed his life for me. Jade would never change his mind so easily. Perhaps we haven’t said our goodbyes yet.’ She turned off the shower and wrapped herself in a soft pink towel. It used to be her favorite.
