Chapter Thirteen - My Paisley

              Soren's POV

I found her… After two years of constantly searching. Sleepless nights. Constant let-downs. I found her. And to find out the mate she was saving herself for was no other than my older brother, Roman. In no way would he ever deserve her.

When she walked through that door the happiness, I felt was unlike any other I have ever felt. She looked so beautiful but so tired. She looked so different and yet the same. She looked smaller, or I have gotten larger. She never looked up from the ground as she entered the room. She was with this piece of shit all along. The one place I never even thought to look. I couldn’t help but check her out. She definitely filled out a bit more since the last time I seen her. Her eyes don’t hold the same light as they used to, she looked drained.

I watched as she handed over a few files to Alpha Kane and then sat next to him as he nodded. She kept looking down at her lap the entire time until Kane spoke. I wanted to smash his face completely in. That’s when she realized who we were. The moment we made eye contact I felt my heart skip a beat. It was like looking into her eyes for the first time all over again. She still knew how to make my knees weak. It was when she looked away from me I felt cold again. She looked at us like she had never met us before. Then her eyes landed on Roman and I felt jealous as she checked him out. He did the same to her. I wanted to smash his face in as well. Her eyes filled with sadness as she looked at him but she did the same thing as she had to us. Looked away as if she had no idea who we were. I felt my heart ache at that. Even my wolf whimpered inside of me. Why was she so cold?

I couldn’t help but watch her the entire time, she smelled so good and looked amazing. Her sigh caught my attention. I watched the look Kane gave to her. She left to use the restroom, a male guard followed behind her. The entire time she was gone I felt cold and angry. Over the last two and a half years, my rage just kept growing. Nothing could calm me down. And now here we are, just being in her presence has me weak in the knees.

She had tripped when she got back. As she scrambled to get up her hand touched a little to close to my… creating an issue. But I felt her slip something in my hand. She apologized for falling on me and that’s when I read her eyes. It was something for me, she knew she slipped it in my hand.

Violet snapped her fingers in front of my face. Pulling me out of my thoughts, I look at her as I lay my back against the bed. “What are you thinking about?” She asks.

“a lot.”

“Is that ‘a lot’ Paisley?” She smirks at me.

“She wasn’t at dinner.” I say, frustration filling me. I wanted to see her.

Violet sighs and lays beside me, both of us staring at the ceiling. “You can’t blame her. I would be hysterical if I found out everything she found out. She was lied to and to top it off she’s having to make so many decisions.”

“She is Roman’s mate.” I say, and that sentence alone angers me. I want her, I always have wanted her. The moment I seen her smile and the fight she had in her. The way she has always been willing to die for the people she cares about. Even now she is putting everyone before herself.

Violet turns over on her side to face me. “Do you think he will reject her?”

“Probably, they’re polar opposites. I guess it makes sense why he lost his shit on me after she stayed the night with me. He could smell it, their mate bond but it wasn’t recognizable to him. He has always said he doesn’t want a mate.” I say but even that thought hurts me. Paisley has always wanted her mate. That’s why all I ever tried to do with her back then was kiss her. Because I respected what she wanted. But the thought of her being rejected hurts me as well. I don’t want to see her in the pain I had to go through when rejecting my own mate. And to think Paisley got stuck with Roman as a mate. And she apologized to him. It was enough to make me sick to the stomach.
