Chapter 40 What it means to be human

Four days had past since the heatwave and the island was no longer covered in snow, much to everyone's disappointment. In those four days three events were held and the scores changed.

The guilds were currently in the middle of an event as we speak. It was a simple event in which each participant was to gather up ten specific objects around the according area. The participants were Ren and Jenny, Toby and Sherria, Rufus and Minerva and Lucy and Levy. Unfortunately the event is it going as long as people thought it would, since it had only been an hour and it was almost over, the guild that was in the lead was Sabertooth followed up by Blue Pegasus then Lamia Scale and Fairy Tail. Sabertooth was only metres away from the final object but Lamia Scale and Blue Pegasus we're right on their tale. Poor Lucy and Levy were lost somehow. Navigating through the designated route was more challenging then they first thought. In the end it was Sabertooth who won the event but unlike  what Makarov does, Jiemma didn't boast about it. He thought about it though. The scores now were.

After the event there was a guild meeting that everyone took place in. Except for a certain demon that didn't want to bother with such trivial matters. So apart from him everyone was sitting in the area, awaiting for Jura. Once the saint arrived he had gotten everyone's attention and began to talk. He wanted to discuss the final event of the games. What was going to happen was a guild battle royale, in which each guild would send one person to compete the winner of the event would be given ten points, allowing any guild to become the victor. As battle royales usually go, each competitor will fight until there is only one remaining. At the moment each guild was in the process of discussing on who would compete in the final event.

"Oo oo you guys have gotta pick me" Sting said to his guild mates, as he was flapping his arms around like an idiot. His fellow guild mat s gave him looks of pity. Most of them wondered how someone so strong could at the same time be so stupid.

"Unfortunately for you it's the guild masters choice for who gets to go into the final event, not yours or ours" Rogue said crossing his arms in the process. Sting chuckled and rubbed the back of his head. He or anyone else wouldn't dare to ask Jiemma personally, so they simply awaited for the guild master to respond.

"I don't care who goes in just make sure you win, especially against Fairy Tail" Jiemma said. He couldn't stand the thought of losing to such a pathetic guild. To his opinion Makarov was too "soft" on his guild, they would go around doing their requests like any other guild but they made such a big deal after completing one. He thought that celebrating the finished request was stupid and not only that but even when they destroyed buildings or landscapes they wouldn't get into trouble.
'Pathetic' he thought. So it was decided for Sabertooth that Sting would go.

"It's obvious that I should go, I simply won't loose this event" Lyon said getting disappointed looks from his guild mates.

"You know you said that in the first event too right, but you lost then so why should we pick you to go" Yuka asked sceptical about sending in Lyon of all people. Ever since he lost the first event he'd been spouting nonsense about getting revenge.

"That doesn't matter, I'll go and I'll win" he simply said raising his fist up in the air dramatically, Ooba didn't care who went in so she agreed with Lyon. While spinning herself. Blue Pegasus would be sending in Ichiya. He hasn't been in an event yet and was itching for a turn. It was Fairy Tail's turn to pick a competitor and they were having quite the discussion about it.
"Why don't you go Erza-san" Wendy asked but Erza shook her head

"I went in yesterday's event, there's no point in me doing today's one as well" she said "besides battling those monsters took a lot more out of me than I thought it would. I can still feel the effect of that side jab from that rock golem" she added rubbing the side of her stomach. "Anyways we should let someone else have a go" she paused "how about you go Gildarts, you haven't been with in any events yet?" She asked but he also shook his head.

"No thanks I've been enjoying watching all of you youngsters compete, I don't want to ruin it by making you watch me completely dominating the competition" he laughed while drinking his alcohol, causing everyone to sweat drop. "Why don't you pick someone younger then I eh? Hmmm let's see... what about Natsu he hasn't competed since the treasure hunt" he suggested

"Didn't you say someone younger than you - you do remember that Natsu is much much MUCH older than you are" Gray said as he crossed his arms and gave Gildarts a stupid look.

"Yeah, besides Natsu's not even here right now so we wouldn't be able to discuss it with him"
'I also doubt that he would want to compete' Lucy said/thought.

"JUST SIGN HIM UP!!" Makarov yelled in anticipation, he wasn't going to loose to any other guild so he thought that this was the sure fast way to win.

"I guess he's the final Fairy Tail competitor" Lucy said

With Natsu
Natsu's POV

Currently I was sitting on top of the mountain on the other side of the island hanging my legs off the edge. I couldn't be bothered to listen to any of the things that Jura? Wanted to say. Now that I think about it Jura is a strange person. He doesn't seem to be offended by anything that I say to him, especially when I was locked up in the magic council place.
"Do I want to be feared or accepted?" That's the million jewel question. Though I honestly couldn't care less what people thought about me, I don't care wether they scream for their lives every time they see me, or decide to deal with me hanging around. Then again I don't exactly like it when they scream so loud. That hurts my ears.

"I kinda forgot that your a demon"

"You don't act like it"

"You hated everyone"
Disliked
"You pin people to walls and feed their parts to fish"
Even fish need to eat, and the piranha seem to like the taste of humans... not that I can blame them.
"You treat everyone like normal people"
It's courtesy, nothing more nothing less. Your treat me the same. But why?

"I don't understand"
"You saved Lucy's life, and for that we will be forever grateful"
I did it for myself, not for her or anyone else
"It's not fair if we judge you on what you are instead of who you are"

But why? Why would anyone want to be my friend? I'm a demon, I'm E.N.D
"You act more human than most of us"

"You don't act like your better than everyone else"
Why would I, when I envy people. I envy them, truely. It's unfair that they get to live and die, to have a normal life and not be limited to what others think about them.
"It's so unfair" what does it even mean to be human? I haven't been human for so long that I've forgotten something so simple. If Zeref were here he would know the answer. Then again if he were here he still wouldn't tell me. He'd say something along the lines of "figure it out yourself" I sighed and layed down from where I was. Unfortunately as soon as I did that I was interrupted by something biting me luckily it only turned out to be a pup, a wolf pup to be exact the parents were right behind it  scolding it for running off on its own especially on a mountain. After awhile they left but not before having them scold me for sulking on a mountain.
"Animals sure are odd" I smiled at the little wolf family I wish my life was so simple. But alas that's impossible for me

"Don't you wanna see something you've never seen before" you've shown me many things Erza.
"He said that he was going to kill us sometime in the future"
I don't really want to anymore, how could I after everything we've been through. Aren't we...
