Chapter 38 A fathers love

Everyone was back in the stadium awaiting for Jura to speak but in the meantime everyone was either talking or looking at the groups that went in the last event. Yuka and Sherry were drenched and Sherry had seaweed in her hair, they smelled like fish and seawater which was putting people off an they were keeping their distance from them. Hibiki and Eve were acting proud, which was confusing other guilds but they didn't question it. Jiemma was scolding Sting and Rogue for losing twice, especially to Fairy Tail. Jiemma was producing dark aura which made everyone keep their distance from him.  Meanwhile Makarov was boasting again on how great Fairy Tail is, leaving all the other guilds hating them even more than ever. After a while Jura had come and given out the scores

(First place gets 3 points, second place gets 2 points, third place gets 1. Lamia Scale didn't get any points in the treasure hunt)

It was nightfall, around 10:00. Everyone was either in bed or partying as they usually do. Gary was in his room getting changed and ready for bed when someone knocked on his door. He didn't want to talk to anyone at the current moment, he was too tired. Someone knocked on the door again.
"Just wait, I'm coming" Gray opened his door furiously, he was unaware that he was only in his boxers
"Who the hell wants to talk" Gray scanned the area but couldn't see anyone and was about to close the door when he was interrupted

"Look down idiot" Gray looked down to see Natsu in his kid form "you do realise that your in your underwear right?" Gray stared for a moment before he sighed heavily and moved away from the door granting entry to the minimised demon who accepted and made his way into Gray's room. They both sat down at the coffee table Gray put his legs on the table, Natsu gave him odd looks from this action. He knew people did this but couldn't understand why.

"So what do you want you know it's late right, and why in your actual? Form was it?" Gray asked confused as to why Natsu was a child.

"Firstly, I honestly prefer to be in my original form it's more comfortable, especially if I want to rest. Secondly, I came to give you something" he said in his child like voice. He pulled a silver ring out of his trouser pocket and threw it at Gray, who caught it easily.

"What's this? Not a proposal I hope" Gray shuddered at the thought. Natsu tilted his head in confusion

"Not at all" Natsu simply replied "in the off chance that I had actually met you, I was supposed to give you that. Silver said that but I'm not sure why he would give it to me" Natsu said scratching the back of his head. Gray's eyes widened.

"This was fathers?" Gray didn't exactly know what to say. He couldn't understand why his father would give the demon his ring, why not him. "You said dad gave it to you, why not have given it to me earlier then?" He was confused, Natsu on the other hand looked like he couldn't care less

"Honestly" he leaned back into the chair he was sitting on "I wasn't going to give it to you, I couldn't have cared less what Silver wanted from me and giving a ring to a person that I'd may or not ever meet was just obscured" he said. Gray was fiddling with the ring paying attention to every word that Natsu was saying. "You said that your father abandoned you, because he thought of you as weak, but if you want my opinion I think that it's quite the opposite" Gray stopped fiddling with the ring and looks at the demon who had his hands behind his head "Silver didn't abandon you. Truth be told when Deliora attacked the village he did die" Gray was unsure as to what Natsu was saying. If Natsu had met him then how could his dad be dead, he couldn't understand.
"One of Zeref's demons his name was Keyes, he could revive the dead... that's not the right word I'd say that it's more revive the soul and give it physical form. Anyways he was the reason that Silver came back to life. Silver was forced to come back and obey. Silver joined Tartarus. Most of the time he would go do his own thing, other times he would hang around me for some unknown reason I don't know why he took interest in me, and do you know what annoyed me about him, it was his bad jokes they were horrible" Gray snickered a little. He remembered that his dad's jokes weren't very good٫ in fact they were the worst jokes anyone could've ever thought up.
"He would talk about you a lot he would say how great you were and that he was lucky to have such a perfect son, honestly it made me quite jealous. My parents were always too busy to do anything with Zeref or I so we tended to spend most of the time together" there was silence in the room for a couple of minutes before Gray spoke

"Say do you remember the quarrel we had years back, when you were public enemy number one" Gray asked Natsu who started grinning

"You mean the one where I bet you without magic, yeah I remember" he said grinning even more than before. Gray's face flustered from the embarrassment

"The details aren't important. Anyways you said back then that dad used to make ice for you what did you mean by that?" He asked once again, though unlike before the demon wasn't going to ignore him

"With his demon slayer magic he used to make little ice cubes for me which I would eat usually to cool me down though normally if a demon ate a demon slayers magic they would die however, I guess that doesn't work on me" paused "ice is just frozen water I drink water occasionally but I would never been able to have ice, since it would melt as soon as I got close to it however, demon slayer ice doesn't melt as quickly so I'm able to eat it without it melting. It had no flavour but it feels nice to have in my mouth, you know since it's so cold it cools down my body temperature quite a bit" Natsu explained, throughout the talk Gray would give him odds looks but then changed them to satisfied ones.

"I see" Gray simply replied looking down and his feet

"The ring is magic, it's supposed to increase your demon slayer magic 10 fold"
'You understand why I wasn't going to give it to you' he thought Gray smiled at the news making Natsu quiver
"Don't go getting any bright ideas human, even with that ring i am still stronger" Natsu blurted out not wanting Gray to have any ideas

"Don't worry E.N.D I'm not in the mood to challenge you right now, however make me upset and we'll see about a rematch" Gray said standing up and walking over to Natsu who was confused about his action. Gray raised a fist at the demon who didn't understand what he was doing
"It's called a fist pump, it's something we humans like to do, to show respect for example" Gray said. Natsu stood up and changed back to his usual form now matching Gray's height. He also closed his fist and moved it in front of Gray's who snickered and pumped his fist into Natsu's "and that's why it's called a fist pump" Gray said taking his fist away from Natsu's who was looking at his own fist

"Humans have weird traditions" he said aloud but he didn't intend to

"You know for someone who's over 400 years old, you sure don't know wot about people eh" Gray said walking over to the door with Natsu not too far behind

"Well most of those 400 years I'd been surrounding by demons, not humans. Demon traditions are a lot easier to understand than human ones are" Natsu said still looking at his fist

"I'm sure they are" Gray replied opening the door for Natsu who went out of it

"I guess I'll see you tomorrow, I wish you goodnight" he started walking away before he was called out by Gray

"Hey Natsu" he turned his head back to look towards the ice mage, who was smiling
"Thanks for this man, I really appreciate it" he said before closing his door leaving the demon in the hallway

'It's only a ring' he thought before he started to head back to his own room.
